I looked online at Blue Nile (I used to love browsing the recently purchased engagement ring section which shows cost and everything!). In person, I went to Shane Co. and Jared, as well as the jewelry stores in my local mall.

I think I’m missing something here, lol… When you say “alas, I won’t be making a trip out to Denver, even if the world’s best store is there”, which store do you mean?

And about the save feature and you losing your posts… Have you tried clicking on your username? It shows every post you’ve ever made. The top will be threads you just replied to, and if you scroll down it will show a section labeled “Threads Started”.

Oh, gotcha. But yeah, try Blue Nile. From what I’ve heard they’ve gotten great reviews and their site is laid out pretty well.

I second purplebee for checking out bluenile.  I really like how it will show you the ring on a hand.  It’s so much more realistic.

I looked at Zales mostly for my dream ring. But I don’t know where he went to get it. :/

I’ve looked at a lot of different places.

the website for kay’s, jareds and some other chain place.

I’ve stalked pricescope too! I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

this is the store where I got my engagement ring:

They are a real brick and mortar store so you can also visit in person if needed and will provide extra pictures and videos. They also perform tons of tests on their diamonds. I loved them and the diamonds are of an incredibly good quality.

I’m such a sucker for browsing the chain stores in the malls, even though I know a lot of their diamonds are crap.

We personally chose to buy the stone first and then to get it set once we saw it. I’m not a diamond person, so we bought a stone from acstones.com (highly recommended on pricescope for quality and honesty) and then looked at it and held it for ages before deciding what setting would look best. I would heartily recommend Barry Bridgestock too, if you want to go the coloured stones route.

That works for us: but it depends if you’d rather see a finished ring and try it on, or choose it bit by bit. Hope it helps x

ETA: I’ve also heard great things about goodoldgold too if you want a diamond ring x

Try Borsheims.com.  The brick and mortar store is here and it is owned by Birkshire Hathaway/Warren Buffet.  The store is very well known and is very reputable.  We went into the store and they hand designed my ring to go with the ring that the FH made for me.

I would have to recommend http://www.pricescope.com they have a ton of online vendors.  You can also learn alot about diamonds and they have some of the best prices.  I’m going to go check out diamonds in June from excel diamonds a pricescope vendor in nyc.  I hope this helps.
