I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy a used lab-diamond?
When I look at new-retail prices, lab diamonds and mined diamonds with similar specs look to be about the same price (give or take a few percent). I’m not talking CZ, moissanite, Amora, the “fancy CZ” from Diamond Nexus, etc – I mean actual synthetic lab diamonds from Brilliant Earth, MiaDonna, Diamond Foundry, etc, that will come with a lab report from IGI or EGL or some certification of that tier.
People say their resale value is much much less and the secondary market is weak.
I know about loupetroop, idonowidont, diamondbistro, and ebay of course. But is actually possible to get an amazing deal on a used lab-diamond? I’m in the market for a 1.5-2ct Oval or Round.
Thanks!

cherubian : I am going out on a limb, but what about like offerup or FB market place. I feel like people are selling them all the time and for pretty decent prices? Maybe not? I do not have an answer I wish I did, I just know when I was looking for a band for my ring I went to offer up and FB and found several people selling moissanites for what I thought were like 1/2 price at least and they said they had the paperwork.

Check out D.Nea Diamonds, they aren’t second hand but their prices are so much better than the other vendors I’ve seen. I actually tracked down one of their stones and compared prices. On D.Nea Diamonds the stone was about 13k, the same exact stone (checked the cert #) on MiaDonna was 25k.
If not then I agree with pp and check diamondbistro, idonowidont, and LETGO

I have not found them to be the same price. When I was looking for my mom, we bought Pure Grown and they were abut 30% cheaper.

HI i was wondering if you managed to source a second hand lab grown diamond? I too would like to purchase a second hand diamond ring with a certificate but I’m finding it difficult to source one. I was just wondering if you managed to find one as it’s been 10 months later? Thanks

quiltman1984 : I think it depends on the type of cert and the country you get it from. Not that fraud wouldn’t be rampant when purchasing second hand on ebay-of course it is. But when I say paperwork, I mean the item report has to be able to be tracked back to the original issuing lab/mfg ie: a gia cert.

My ring is from Clean Origin. It’s a lab diamond. Lab grown diamonds from Clean Origin and Brilliant Earth retail for significantly less than natural diamonds. We wouldn’t have been able to get these awesome specs unless we went with lab. Boyfriend saved around $4,000.00 by going with lab over natural just on the stone alone. Lab diamonds were more economical and ethical for us.
You’re going to have to hunt to find a good used lab diamond. Make sure it comes with certificate so you can get it inspected. My stone has a laser inscription. You can look on eBay, Poshmark, Tradesy, OfferUp, Craigslist, FB Marketplace. But be careful and aware of any return policies! You don’t want to be stuck with a CZ or moissanite ring you paid for that isn’t lab as advertised.

Have you looked at Yasamine Co.? I got a moissanite from them but they also sell lab diamonds and I found their prices to be pretty reasonable.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens to lab diamond prices. They have already dropped in price and they may drop more. In the meantime you can check all the pre-owned sites, Tradesy, Diamond Bistro, Loupe Troop, etc.
