I’m having mine made by a local dressmaker.  It’s a MUCH cheaper alternative to the Stephanie James ones and I get to avoid all the problems of chasing down the perfect vintage dress before someone else gets it first, then wondering if the vintage sizing will work for me, etc.  I don’t know why more people don’t take this route.

I’m taking that route Frugal Faye! I’m having mine custom made – it’ll be a very gorgeous fun 50’s prom dress style – I’m super excited!!! Plus, by having it made for you, you know it’ll fit perfectly and you can have it EXACTLY how you want it!

Etsy actually has quite a few vintage gowns- but you’d have to buy it and have it altered to your size. Just type in wedding dresses and select “Vintage” rather than “handmade”

where are you located? There is a vintage shop I went to in Oakland, CA that has a huge collection of old dresses.

As far as vintage flare, Justin Alexander’s 9552 is the best throw back to Grace Kelly I’ve ever seen… and he made the lace, long sleeved top removable.  Genius.
