Quick question where are you guys getting dressed for the big day? My house will be packed with out of town guests and so will my mothers. The guys are getting dressed at my mother-in-laws. I was looking into hotels but all of their check in times are 3 and 4 p.m. its looking like I will have to book the night before and the day of in order to get a room, but who wants to pay almost 500 for a hotel room????????? ugh this is the final planning step for me and I think I may have to just bite the bullet…. My girls and me will be in the room and on the big day we will get dressed, hair and makeup done their also. I am having an evening wedding in Astoria, ny – I’m trying to get a location that we can take pictures at and that is close to the venue…. I might be asking for too much huh?
I thought hotels had day suites for things like this where you can check in at 9 and out by 6 – this would be perfect for me but I guess they don’t do it on saturdays.

Where are you getting married? What kind of venue?
We got married in a church and took over some of the rooms and bathrooms there for getting ready, makeup, and dressing.

The church or venue would be a good idea. I will be shelling out the extra $$$ for a hotel room, but I know that is a hard pill to swallow if you will only be using the room for that and not staying the night before too. Whever it is make sure it is large enough for everyone and has enough light- I shot a wedding this weekend and the bride wanted to get ready at her house. Cool right? Except her bedroom was very small, dark paint on the walls and the window was covered with dark drapery. If getting ready pictures are important to you try to avoid that.

I’d talk to your venue, most of them have space for the bride to get ready– otherwise, how about a friend’s house? Either your wedding party, or someone close that lives near by.

Thank you ladies I am going to check with the venue (which is a reception hall having everything in one room – we are renewing our vows) and see if we can get a friends or family house. Thank you for the advice

I’m getting a hotel room. The room at the venue isn’t large enough to accommodate the bridesmaids, moms, makeup/hair artist, and photographer.

I’m having the same dilemma….I need 3.5 hours for hair and make up for us all and the venue is 30 mins drive from my / my mum’s house…I can’t get ready at the hotel we’re staying at that night but I can at the venue (which only has one room for everyone and few facilities)…..

My venue doesn’t have a space for brides to get ready they have 2 bridal rooms, which may be shared by up to 2 brides each. It’s a wedding hall. But they said those rooms are not for getting ready in or taking pictures in. Geez, what’s the point, then, really?! Anyway, I’ll probably get ready at one of my FI’s family’s places or my bridesmaid’s place.

I’m also shelling out the $$$ for a hotel suite for the night before and of the wedding.

What about a salon? The one I use regularly for my hair does wedding bookings. They close to the “public” and have the place reserved for just the wedding party. The great thing is there are plenty of mirrors and plenty of space. The bride usually arranges subs or pizza delivered to snack on while getting ready. Then they change into dresses and head to the venue. You would have to use their hair dressers, but it might be an option.

Thanks Ladies, I just bit the bullet and rented a hotel suite for the 11 of us (hair and makeup artist included). Over the phone the rep assured me that I will be able to check in by 12 despite the hotels checkin at 3. When I called the hotel to confirm the lady who answered said he could not confirm such a thing because checkin is at 3. Fustrated one because he lied to get the sale and two because there are no refunds – I asked the lady what was the worst scernio she said that I would have to wait about 10-15 minutes wheww – hopefully all works out on the big day (I’m staying positive) and if not then we will start our hair and makeup in the hotels lobby, they will be sure to get the room ready by then lol…….
I just wish hotels rented daily use for such events like these because I basically paid for a nights stay and I am only going to use 6 hours (the mister and I want to return home after the wedding, espically since we have out of town guests staying with us). But you gotta do what you gotta do right???????????????????????/
