Where are you getting married? What kind of venue?

We got married in a church and took over some of the rooms and bathrooms there for getting ready, makeup, and dressing.

The church or venue would be a good idea. I will be shelling out the extra $$$ for a hotel room, but I know that is a hard pill to swallow if you will only be using the room for that and not staying the night before too. Whever it is make sure it is large enough for everyone and has enough light- I shot a wedding this weekend and the bride wanted to get ready at her house. Cool right? Except her bedroom was very small, dark paint on the walls and the window was covered with dark drapery. If getting ready pictures are important to you try to avoid that.

I’d talk to your venue, most of them have space for the bride to get ready– otherwise, how about a friend’s house? Either your wedding party, or someone close that lives near by.

I’m getting a hotel room. The room at the venue isn’t large enough to accommodate the bridesmaids, moms, makeup/hair artist, and photographer.

I’m having the same dilemma….I need 3.5 hours for hair and make up for us all and the venue is 30 mins drive from my / my mum’s house…I can’t get ready at the hotel we’re staying at that night but I can at the venue (which only has one room for everyone and few facilities)…..

My venue doesn’t have a space for brides to get ready they have 2 bridal rooms, which may be shared by up to 2 brides each.  It’s a wedding hall.  But they said those rooms are not for getting ready in or taking pictures in.  Geez, what’s the point, then, really?!  Anyway, I’ll probably get ready at one of my FI’s family’s places or my bridesmaid’s place.

I’m also shelling out the $$$ for a hotel suite for the night before and of the wedding.

What about a salon?  The one I use regularly for my hair does wedding bookings.  They close to the “public” and have the place reserved for just the wedding party.  The great thing is there are plenty of mirrors and plenty of space.  The bride usually arranges subs or pizza delivered to snack on while getting ready.  Then they change into dresses and head to the venue.  You would have to use their hair dressers, but it might be an option.
