Hi! I am an out of towner getting married in SF (former resident). I’m only looking for a venue for about 40 people- ideally outdoors for both ceremony and reception, or at the very least someplace not very formal where kids wouldn’t be breaking stuff! I’d love to have people be able to stay the same place where the event would be. Hoping for no farther than one hour outside the City…desperately need help as I’m hoping to get married in Sept! Yikes! Many thanks…

Check out the Piedmont Community Hall. It’s set in the middle of Piedmont Park so lots of grassy areas for kids to run (and a playet 200′ away around the corner) Ceremony’s can be held outside in the courtyard and meals can be inside the hall or outside; whichever you choose. You can choose your own caterer and there really isn’t anything there for the kids to break! September Saturday’s may be booked up though. We booked August nearly 15 months ago.
Also try Mare’ Island in Vallejo. It’s beautiful too, but more breakables here.

- Wedding: August 2018 - Ceremony at Crissy Field and Reception at the Green Room
You might call the Brazilian Room in Berkeley to see if they have any cancellations? Sometimes something opens up, and it’s beautiful! 🙂

Thanks creampuff & lizliterarius. Looks like the Brazilian Room is booked unfortunately!!! Will try the others and hope for the best…I have been looking in wine country and hoping something there might work if you have any ideas. Oy this is stressful.

We’re getting married at the Marin Art & Garden in Ross (Marin County). The ceremony will be onsite at the gazebo, with our reception in the Garden Room. It’s a lovely space and great for a smaller event (our guest count is 55 max). The room is small, but it opens up onto two courtyards. There is a playground onsite as well for any munchkins.

Ross is about 45 minutes north of the city, but the San Anselmo Inn is just down the street from the venue (most of our Wedding Party and family will stay here). There are a couple of other area hotels if people wanted to be close, rather than commuting from the city.

Check out this site…it should give you some great ideas: http://www.nps.gov/goga/planyourvisit/upload/sb-weddings-out4.pdf
Also, there’s always Shakespeare Garden or the Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park – both are lovely.
Happy planning and all the best,

There’s also the Trocadero Clubhouse in Stern Grove. We’re getting married at Marin Art & garden center also (livermore), but Stern is an in-the-city option and pretty reasonable. HOWEVER, they really lack a wedding planner to help you if you are out of town. Something to consider:
