My dress hasn’t arrived yet, but I am starting to consider what to do about alterations. I have heard that they are much more expensive at bridal boutiques, and you can get it done a lot cheaper at a tailor (trusted of course!). Does anyone have thoughts on this? Good/bad experiences either way? Thanks!

@Tigrrlily04: I got mine done at a tailor, and her prices were way more reasonable. I used yelp to find her, everyone loved her so I thought it was worth a shot! And the whole thing only took one fitting (dropping it off and picking it up)!

Yes, bridal boutiques will charge you and arm and a leg. Long story short, the bridal boutique’s tailor wanted $300 for JUST the hem. I went to an independent tailor and paid $150 for my wedding gown to be hemmed and bra cups put in, my sheath wedding gown to be hemmed so there’s no train and also bra cups to be put in. I would just ask around and find a tailor someone could recommend to you.
