I put the dress code on the information card insert. I let the guests know that it would be an outdoor wedding and tent reception and what the average temp is for the month of May at the wedding location. I want them to look nice but not be uncomfortable due to the heat.

This may be regional, but I have never seen attire stated on an invitation. I would make sure your invitations are very formal (no cute lovebirds or bicycles) and people should take the hint.  People may even ask you about the dress code…. I know people have been asking me! I don’t mind telling them, but would feel funny writing it on the invite.

I was told that the attire is stated on the invite card. I don’t think anyone would be offended. My invites are on the small side so I don’t have room to put it. I’m going to put it on our website and on the RSVP card. I want black tie optional.

I’m just putting the dress info on our website, but I’m not exactly in the same situation because I’m just doing semi-formal so I’m not too worried about people showing up underdressed.

If the royal wedding did it, you can do it.

I’ve always heard that if you are doing black tie you state that on the invitation. That is what our stationer had us do.
