I can’t think of anywhere rustic, but I recently stayed at the Como in South Yarra (owned by Sofitel) and it was wonderful! It’s an all suite boutique hotel and just very luxurious and romantic. 

Crown towers is great too, but sounds like it may not be what you’re after.

I’ve also heard wonderful things about the Art Series hotels which might be interesting. 

Sorry, it sounds like those places may not be what you have in mind. I can’t really think of anywhere rustic without venturing fairly far out to the Yarra Valley or similar. Fingers crossed for a cancellation at Werribee for you!

If your reception is in Newport, have you looked at any places in Williamstown? This one is meant to be lovely, I’ve had friends stay there:


I grew up in North Willy (so between Newport and Williamstown opposite the rail yards) and it’s a 20 minute drive to Melbourne CBD, 25-30 mins by train (on weekends perhaps longer because the Williamstown train doesn’t run).
