Hi! Just got my dress and the store says I can store it with them (although have to make appts to try on which are impossible to make) until alterations in July. but I love seeing the dress and wouldn’t mind trying it on for motivation… Thoughts? What did you do?

Mine was on the back of our office door, but I don’t trust our cats and puppy..or bunny for that matter. It’s currently at the alterations place since my final fitting is on the 26th, but before all of that, it was at his Aunt’s house.
It should be fine in your closet or on the back of the door, so long as you don’t have a Fiance who wants to try and sneak a peek!

I walked outta a store on Saturday with a dress, without expecting it. Literally, walked out with a discountinued model. It is currently hanging in my mother’s closet and will stay there until I get alterations next year.

My wedding is in September and my bridal shop just got my dress in yesterday. They are going to store it until end of June when I will begin alterations.

My dress was stored at the salon since it came in December. I just brought it home this past weekend because I was recently having doubts. Best decision I’ve made!! I won’t be getting alterations until around July/August so it’s hanging in our guest room for now 🙂

Well, my alterations weren’t 100% done until the day before my wedding. But even if they weren’t 100% done, I would have left it with the salon because they steam it for you before you pick it up, and at home, there’s a risk of it wrinkling before the big day (especially if you’re like me and wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation of trying it on a bunch) or getting mauled by a pet like @Pacificgirl said.
Now that the wedding’s over, I keep it in a dress bag hanging from the inside of a closet door where it’s protected. If you want to keep it at home, I’d recommend getting an opaque plastic dress bag to go over the fabric one you probably already have to protect it from light, moths, liquids, prying fiances, and possible misbehaving pets.

@anemonie: I totally just pictured our 2 lb bunny mauling my dress. Thanks for that awesome mental image, it definitely made my day!

Mine is at my fiance’s parent’s house (they have the extra room). I’ve always read in wedding planning/budgeting books that holding the dress at the store is not the best idea because you never know what may happen to it/the store and you can’t always access it at your convienience. I thought that was a pretty good tip, never really thought too far into it until I read it.

I saw a post on here before my dress came in and it said something about she kept her dress at the salon, went to try it on and there were stain marks on it. I was too terrified to leave it at the bridal salon so my Mother-In-Law took it home with her.

I wouldn’t leave it at a salon myself. I’d be too scared of it getting lost/something happening to the store (closing, fire, flood, careless employee with a cup of fruit punch, whatever). I would take it home and store it in a garment bag in a rarely-used closet.
However, my own dress is going to be living at my parent’s house. They live in the city we’re getting married in, we live several hundred miles away. I’ll be buying the dress in their city as well so I don’t have to worry about traveling with it.

I bought one of those awesome bags to stick it in and it’s hanging in the back of my mom’s closet where the pups can’t get to tit. Put it on again last week when I was in town!!

I’s be a bit paranoid about leaving it at the salon! Fiance and I are currently living the expat life, so I am just storing my dress (in a huge garment bag) at home. Otherwise I would leave it at my parents’ house.
