Right now, my hair is about mid-way down by back, around my bra band. I already have my post-wedding chop scheduled for the Monday following our at-home reception. I’m planning on cutting it into a chin-length bob, so there should be a pretty long ponytail and I really want to donate it to some charity that makes wigs. I’ve looked around a bit and it looks like it may be a problem because my hair is highlighted.
Does anyone know of where I could donate my post-wedding chop hair? Has anyone done it?

Haven’t done it, but my sis has done it with her kids and my friend has done it, too – locks for love?

I can’t answer your question about who will accept highlighted hair, because I never researched it since mine isn’t!
But, both Locks of Love or Pantene Beautiful Lengths accept hair donations. Only difference is Locks of Love goes only to children cancer patients, but Pantene will go to adults too. They also have different minimum length requirements. I believe Locks of Love requires 10 inches but Pantene will accept a minimum of 8 inches.
I will be sending mine (which I cut off last week) to Pantene since it’s borderline whether Locks of Love would accept it.

Angel Hair accepts color treated hair. Hair that Cares does, too, but I can’t get the link to open at work.

Locks of Love actually goes to kids with allopecia, and they require the donations to be pretty pristine, otherwise they will get thrown out or sold. I think Pantene doesn’t receive nearly as many donations, and will accept color treated hair.
I’ve donated to Locks of Love, and have no idea if my hair was used! That was years ago, though. When I do it again (I’m sure I will!) I will donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
Just be sure to do your research if you’re at all concerned about what happens to your hair after it leaves your head. I personally like the idea of donated to kids with allopecia, but I read an article about how overwhelmed they were with donations of hair (and so much of it doesn’t fit their guidelines), so I think I’ll donate to another group that needs the hair more.

Ask your salon, I know my local salon makes donations regularly.
P.S. Awesome idea, I can’t wait to get mine cut after the wedding!!

I sent my 20″ to Beautiful Lengths. I figured Locks of Love gets a lot of long good hair that another org might benefit.
