I am having my bridesmaids pick out their own dresses for my wedding. I am having 5 bridesmaids, 2 of which will be matrons of honor. I am purchasing the 2 dresses that my matrons of honor choose. However, I would like them to choose from more expensive designers than I would ask my other 3 bridesmaids to pay for. So… I am thinking of having my 2 matrons of honor wearing one brand of dress in eggplant and then having my other 3 bridesmaids wear an accent color in a different brand. The groomsmen will be in gray suits. Which dress color do you think would go best with the gray suits and eggplant dresses?
This is not the brand, but an example of a dark purple/eggplant:
Option 1: Try to find a complementary deep magenta:
Option 2) A dark slate that will be darker than the gray suits
Option 3) A deep teal:

I voted teal just because I think teal and dark purple are gorgeous together! But the magenta would look fine too…whatever suits the girls and your taste!

I voted for magenta. It would brighten everything up and you could tie the girls together by using flowers that incorporate both colors. Any of your choices are pretty though!

I voted for teal. Magenta would be my 2nd choice. Even though slate is darker than gray, I think it would bee too similar to the gray and wouldn’t pop. It would blend instead.

Magenta because as PP said, it would be easy to mix purple and magenta flowers for a cohesive look. Teal is 2nd choice. I think gray might look weird with the gray suits. And it will make it seem like you want the regular bridesmaids to fade into the background in comparison to the MOHs whereas with the other color options they can all be equally bright.
ETA: How do the groomsmen colors factor in? Are they going to have colored ties? Will the best man have a tie to match the MOHs and the rest match the BMs?

I voted for teal – I think it pops the best against the other colors.

I voted teal as well. I think they will look so pretty together.

I voted for teal but also think magenta could look good together. My first instinct was to go with slate as I think that’s a great colour, but then I tried to picture it with grey suits and it doesn’t seem like it would work as well. If we could see a picture of the suits the guys are going to wear, it might be easier to picture.

Magenta or Teal. The gray would just blend in and not pop like the other colors.

To me, purple & magenta and purple & teal clash.
I’d go with puple & slate.

i think Magenta because it’s still purple and i think it would help tie it in. i think the teal, although a nice colour, is too far off. I guess it depends if you want your bridesmaids to still somewhat look like they are on the same team or not!
i think teal might be ok if they at least have all the same style dress…. or i would go with the magenta, if they are having different styles of dresses, if that makes sense

@zdb: The magenta is beautiful with grey and eggplant! Its lovely and feminine <3
I think the teal is a little too far removed and the slate is too close to the groomsmen’s color scheme… tough decision but I like pink and purple together A LOT and most flowers would be lovely against those two colors.

I love the combo of magenta and eggplant. It seems like the colors compliment each other instead of clash with each other.
I also love the teal and eggplant combo, but I guess it’s a matter of what look you’re going for. 🙂
