We are expecting our first child in April and although we aren’t finding out the sex, we both have strong feelings it’s a baby girl! If it turns out to be a boy we are pretty much settled on Harrison for his name. We cant seem to agree 100% on girls names. I have always loved Penelope (poppy as a nickname) and Cecelia (both mine and my moms confirmation name). Although I am sure we will come up with many other ideas in the next 5 months, I’m interested to hear what you think! Thanks bees!!

I love Cecily, not Cecelia as much . I know one Penelope and her nickname is Penny, not Poppy.

I prefer Penelope over Cecilia, but I also think Penelope Cecilia would make a lovely combination.

I love the name Harrison for a boy – my sons middle name is Harris! We had a girls name locked down before our son was born (he was a surprise) but we could not agree on a boys name! He came our looking nothing like our top two so we choose a totally different non short listed name! In short don’t worry about names – it’s so much easier to pick when the baby is there in the flesh!!!

I voted for Penelope, but after reading your post, I love the connection between you and your mom have with Cecelia. If you love both names, I would go with that. Personally, I don’t love Cece as a nickname, but I’ve never been big on nicknames.

My 5 year old daughter’s middle name is Penelope- so that gets my vote!

mrsh52116 : I prefer Cecelia. Some nicknames that I’ve heard aside from CeCe are Celie or Celia… But I’m not big on nicknames. If I love a name, I want to fully use it rather than shorten it! lol

I love Penny as a nickname for Penelope, really don’t like Poppy. So I voted for Cecelia!

mrsh52116 : Be flexible with names. My cousin was supposed to be Laurel Susan. She was born with flaming red hair and her name was immediately changed to Kelly.

I don’t like Penelope but I love Poppy as a nickname so if I had to choose I would choose Penelope as I don’t like Cecelia either.

I really like both names, though I don’t like Poppy as a nickname for Penelope. I’ve never heard it as a nickname for Penelope and for the most part I’m of the mind that except for very obvious name-shortening (like Mike for Michael or Tom for Thomas) you should just name the kid what you intend to call them and let the kid decide as they get older where they want to take that name in terms of nicknames (i.e. does Catherine want to go by Catherine, Cathy, Cat, Katie, Kate, etc.). Poppy is a name on it’s own – a little cutesy but definitely trending up. So honestly, I would probably go with Cecelia or Poppy, but not Penelope if you don’t seem to have any interest in actually calling her that name.
ETA: You say you have strong feelings about both of those names, but what about your spouse?
