I really don’t like big banks anymore.  Their interest rates suck and they change too many fees!  Don’t go with Citibank, they are the worst!

I’ve had Suntrust since I was 15 and I got my first job. So far smooth sailing! Everyone I know who has BofA hates them…

I’m with BOA and Fiance is with Wells Fargo. We have our joined account with Wells Fargo. I prefer big banks over smaller bank is that the ATM is everywhere. Whenever I need to access cash or deposit a check, they’re around the corner and I don’t have to go out of the way.

As for fees, I do not encounter them often so they are not a big issue for me.

It’s true their saving accounts do not give high interest rate; therefore we use online banks for our saving accounts.

As for transfer fees, I found a way to avoid transfer fees from BOA to WF whenever I do the transfer, so again, doesn’t bother me.

I love, love, love, love USAA.  I know – who gets that enthusiastic about a bank, right? But I do.  Not only are their rates great, every time I get off the phone with their customer service, I’m smiling.

That said… they’re only really open to military individuals.  I know you can open a checking accnt with them without a military service record (FI has one) but the rates aren’t as good.  🙁

I have USAA as well as BECU (Boeing Employee CU), I love them both.  I worked at WAMU and my accounts were transferred to Chase – they were horrible I cancelled them as soon as I had the chance.

Fiance is with TD, they are decent.  I’m with RBC, but also use Canadian Tire for savings because of their high interest rate (better than ING).  Do you guys have anything like the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation?  Here the big 6 are pretty safe even without out, IMO, but I wouldn’t have ever opened an ING or CT account if they weren’t covered by CDIC.

I really love TD, and I’m glad that its moving its way into the States. Their hours are great and so are their account options.

I love HSBC! Check it out! Excellent online bank, and easy to do transfers to any hometown bank.

If you two already have accounts at a bank and plan on keeping them, I’d consider staying with one of those two.  I’m sure other banks work the same, but Bofa definitely gives perks to people that keep a certain amount of money with them in their accounts.  I’m not sure how this joint would be linked to your own account, but I think its something to consider.  I have bofa and love it.  I’ve never paid over draft fee on my checkings, fees for stock trades, fees for anything.

Credit unions are usually easier to deal with and more leanient with their policies.  I worked for Chase for a while and that is where I bank but I understand some people don’t like their policies, I had a BOA account and hated it so I guess it works out that way if you love chase you hate boa and if you love boa you hate chase lol.

I have HSBC. I wouldn’t say they are the BEST bank, but I’ve had them for 6 years now with very few complaints.

Fiance has ING and while I think it is an awesome bank, it is online only which makes me kinda nervous. I like being able to go to a branch to make desposits/withdrawals/whatever other banking nonsense I might need.

Chase is the best bank ever. Free checking, checks, savings accounts. They text me my balance whenever I like. I can even take pictures of checks with my phone to deposit them instead of driving into town every day. You can set up alerts where they will text or call you if you go under a certain balance which almost guarantees no charges for an accidental NSF.

USAA is a wonderful bank if you can get on with them. Their customer service is seriously fantastic and they treat you well.

Wells Fargo is the devil. I won’t go into specifics but I will say that when I was in college they messed me up so bad financially I was nearly homeless. And I am a VERY responsible person. Whatever you do, please don’t go with them. I beg you haha.

I loved Washington Mutual. Now they are Chase and not quite as awesome, but not terrible either.

I had BofA and had some major issues with them, which is why I switched to Washington Mutual.

DH had BofA but since all the bills are already set up to come out of my account we swtiched over to Chase for everything.
