I vote Noah for this simple reason that you don’t have to have a disclaimer how it’s pronounced. I know it’s regional how things are pronounced but louis will be called “lewis” his whole life.

Noah is popular in the US as well, but the thing with “popular” baby names these days is that there will be fewer babies given the #1 name in 2016 than there were getting the #1 name in say, 1930–meaning, the overall number of babies named “popular” names is relatively small; it’s just in comparison to the other names, if you get my meaning.

If you are concerned about popularity, then another thing you should consider is your regional geography (like, your neighborhood) and (as tacky as this will sound) your sociocultural circles, because what’s “popular” for all the UK may not be for your specific circle. So, the name Gretchen barely breaks the top 1000 baby names in the US, but three different couples in my social circle chose it for their babies–and it matches in sound and style to a lot of similar names that others in my ‘hood also chose (Bridget, Eugenie, Charlotte…). (I like looking names in context of sociological trends)

And hey, in the grand scheme of things, neither Noah nor Louis are unusual anyway, so “popular” may not be your biggest issue anyway.

I voted Noah because I like it better, and I would pronounce Louis like “Lewis”. But I’m in the US if that makes a difference!

happytobemrsg:  I am in the US but went to school with a boy names Louis and it was pronounced “Louie” plus, Kings “Louie” (lwee) …. So I would say Louie, not Lewis.

However, I still like Noah better!

I’m American and would assume Lewis unless there was some French heritage. I voted Noah because I’m not a fan of the Lewis pronunciation, and I voted before reading (oops!) but Louie is much prettier. Both names are very nice if people around you would say Louie. But if it’s an unusual pronunciation then I’d go with Noah.

happytobemrsg:  Oh lord–we went like, 2000 rounds on our baby name. Both you chose are lovely, classic names–can’t go wrong!

I would pronouce louis as lewis with a slightly more o sound so perhaps Noah would be better so he isn’t correcting people all the time. I have a name that is mispronounced for a similar name (one letter different) all the time and it annoys me no end correcting people. You cant mess up Noah!
