I have two of the most opposite bridesmaids possible! One is 5’11” and blonde, the other is 4’11” and brunette. We spent a whole day trying on dresses yesterday (one lives in another country and had flown over specially so I only had her that day! The other just had a baby so is breastfeeding and could only do a few hours, which I was very grateful for) and we narrowed it down to two, I think!
Which do you think is better for a formal-ish wedding, the teal or the champagne? I love the teal and have red hair so it goes with me brilliantly plus the bridesmaids love it BUT I really wanted floor length gowns. My Fiance is wearing a champagne tie so the champagne colour would work with him but I’m not sure I like the dress as much. Help!
EDIT: I’m in the UK so I’ll be buying the bridesmaid dresses myself rather than getting them to so I’d like to see them in the dresses I choose. The wedding is in August so I’ve got to make a decision quickly!
Here is the teal:
This is the champagne:
And for reference, this is my FI’s suit, the groomsmen suits and my dress:

Teal. I think as the BM’s are so lovely a pale (Whoop to us brits!) the champagne actually makes them look washed out. The teal is lovely and I think will go with the suits nicely. Props to the BM’s for the dress and socks look! I always do that and my Mum moans at me telling me I would probably like the damn outfit more if I bothered to take my bloody socks off! ha ha.

I think the teal are too casual and the color, to me, is too much. The champagne are more formal and elegant and look better on your bridesmaids.

I think the teal dresses clash with the (lovely) blue suit your Fiance is wearing.
The style of the champaigne dresses are infintitly more flattering on your BM’s than the teal (I really don’t like the sleeves).
Column dresses make people look longer and leaner in my opinion, plus your BM’s don’t need to purchase shoes in a specific colour with a floor length gown.

I think a champagne color dress would be PERFECT but I’m not in love with the ones they are wearing. If it’s your only option, they I’d go with the champagne ones, but if not, I’d keep looking for some other kinds.
The teal are nice too, but it’s too much of a color contrast (IMO) with the grooms suit and your gorgeous dress and I’m not a huge fan of the sleeves. They’re kinda… confusing, I guess. Like long and bell shaped, but not long enough and not really bell shaped.
I think champagne would look much more formal and tie into your outfits better.

Can you get the style of the champagne dresses but in the teal color? I think the teal color works much better with both of their complexions but the sleeveless style of the champagne dress is infinitely more flattering on both of them.

I think the champagne long dresses are the most flattering on your BM’s both in style and colour.

Thanks everyone for such quick replies! You’re confirming what I think, the teal ones are just not right. They sleeves don’t say bridesmaid to me, they say wedding guest at best. I think the material of the champagne one is a clingy jersey so maybe something like that in a more flattering cut?

I didn’t even notice that until afterwards! It’s not the warmest in House of Fraser 🙂

Agreed, I think that champagne dress fit the more formal style and it’s flattering But echoing here, I agree with pps on a different color. Also, I love the suits and your dress!

The style of the long dress fits your event better and compliments their figures. The color is not the best but the lighting in the store may be throwing it off. Neutrals always look better in natural light rather than flourescent. Given the choices it is the best option. Maybe add a belt to compliment the suits or incorporate some color into the bouquets.

Okay, back to the drawing board it is! I’ll look for more dresses It’s so hard to find a decent bridesmaid dress that doesn’t cost £400! It’s also hard to find something that they are both comfortable in, they both have small children and are a bit self conscious of their new figures and I want to get something they’ll feel fabulous in.
I think you’re right, I’ve put them all together in photoshop and the teal just doesn’t work with the blue of the suits. And thank you for the compliment on my dress too!

Definitely Champagne! I think the teal and the blue suits kind of clash but maybe thats just me.

I think the teal dress is more flattering on both bridesmaids, for their coloring and figures. They can dress up the look of the shost dress and look more formal with an updo, shoes, jewelry and accessories (perhaps a blingy belt or hair accessory).
What about incorporating teal into the guys’ boutonnieres (flowers or ribbons) and champagne into the girls’ bouquets (maybe have them do their shoes and jewelry in the champagne tone too?)
