I say buy the dress first …. it’s a lot less expensive to buy the right sized heel AFTER you have the dress than to have alterations on your dress because heel height isn’t quite right.

If you’re 100% settled on a shorter dress, then I would say it’s a toss up.

I plan on getting my dress first (next weekend!) and then buy the shoes.

I bought the shoes before having the dress made and don’t regret it in the slightest!

I am bad, I saw my shoes and they were perfect… Fiance and I fell in love with them!  So we purchased them.  I then *ahem* purchased a purse recently and I will confess *cough* I already have my earrings I want to wear…. *clearing throat* and a garter.

No dress yet… haha! I love the fact that I did it backwards!

ETA: I’m so glad I’m not the only one!  It really helps to get your feet wet with purchases to help determine what your style is, too.  Well, for me it does.

I purchased my dress first. I just bought my reception flats today, but once I go for my first fitting (probably around Dec or Jan), then I will look for my ceremony shoes.

I love shoes.  My wedding shoes where actually purchased 5yrs prior to my wedding.  I didn’t know they were going to be the actual pair but when I tried them on w/ my gown, they were perfect.

Bought the shoes first. Found them the first outing for dress shopping. Last pair, my size, and perfect.

I then took them with me to every dress appointment and was measured with them on when ordering my dress to make sure the dress was the right length.

I LOVE my shoes and have zero regrets about buying them first.

I purchased my shoes first and my dress was shortened to their height.

I bought my shoes first because I already knew what color I wanted and I got a great deal. Wasn’t going to wait just because I didn’t have the dress yet.

Dress first, but it had to be hemmed anyways.  My shoes were 4″ high and the dress still an inch too long.  Shoes also werent a priority to me since it was under my dress the whole night anyways.

I had shoes in mind before I picked a dress, but they didn’t work out with the dress. So I’m glad I didn’t buy the shoes first. I’d definitely wait to buy the dress. It definitely took me 10x longer to pick shoes than the dress though.

Dress 1st and then about 12-15 pairs of shoes after before deciding and keeping the perfect hot pink patent leather pair!

I wore flats and found the perfect pair a month or two before I even started looking for my dress.  The hardest part was keeping them in the box for the 12 months until I got to wear them!  Now I love that I can wear my wedding shoes with jeans on a regular day.  It makes me feel pretty.
