- Wedding: June 2014
Yesterday I took the day off work and got to check out some wedding venues with my mom. It was so much fun – we confirmed that our 1st choice (well…really only choice!) reception venue was freakin’ amazeballs, and we saw two amazing ceremony venues – but I can’t decide which is better. As outside observers, which would you choose?
The Jewel Box – A beautiful historic glass greenhouse in the middle of Forest Park (a big huge park (almost twice as big as Central Park in NYC).
Pros:I’ve always imagined my wedding here since I was a wee child, lots of pretty photo ops both around the venue (SO pretty) and in the park, nice restrooms/getting ready room (we’re not doing a first look), no decorations needed due to the trees/greenery growing in the greenhouse, easier parking
Cons: it’s very in-and-out – you get a 1.5 hour time slot, and that’s it. It’s 50 dollars more than the other venue (not that $50 is much), no rehersal time included, it gets warm in the summer because it’s a glass greenhouse (duh), dealing with Forest Park Traffic (with four museums, a zoo, and multiple fields/fair sites, Saturdays in Forest Park can get insane), EVERYONE has been to a wedding here – it’s a very popular venue
The Piper Palm House – A beautiful historic brick green house with soaring windows in Tower Grove Park (a smaller, but still pretty park)
Pros: It seemed cooler in there (the coordinator said they have new A/C units, but reviews on yelp all complained about how hot it gets in there), it gives you an outdoor ceremony option if we decide to do that, better acoustics, you get a three and half hour time slot plus a rehersal, $50 cheaper
Con: My cousin got married there recently and just got divorced, not as many options for photos nearby, there is another wedding venue just across the street, the aisle has a giant fountain that can’t be moved in the middle of it (see picture above), needs more decorations, the hide-out area for the bride is the catering kitchen
Both venues are close to our reception space (same driving distance), both are operated by people who are a pain in the neck to get ahold of (government office/non-profit). Fiance likes one more than the other, but I think I’m leaning towards the other. Ughhhhhhh. Both of the venues aren’t super easy to get to (since they’re both in parks) – out of town guests would need a cab/car for either one.
