You need to get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  While it could be days 11 – 18, you could ovulate before or after those dates.  Read the book and learn how your body works.

I used preseed because we always use some kind of lube and most of it is bad for sperm, but if you don’t need it, I’d say give it a few cycles before you start worrying too much about anything that might not be sexy for you. I got pregnant in my 6th cycle outside of the fertility window that I had been tracking by temp. We’d taken the cycle off because I was traveling a bunch that month and we were planning a big move and I think not worrying about it actually helped— but easier said than done right? I’m 32 and DH is 37, so we also were worried and wanted to get it right from the start. Anyway, good luck and enjoy 🙂

summerrain123 :  Definitely get to know your cycle. I would ovulate anywhere from CD11 to CD14. Taking Charge of Your Fertility will give you all the ways to track your cycles. Best of luck in your TTC journey!

summerrain123 :  the book reccomended above is fantastic- dont take for granted you’ll ovulate around cd (cycle day) 14 like we were taught,  I  dont ovulate until cd 18-22 each month. Temping helped me learn SO much, and I learned it all from that book. I wouldnt worry about adding in a bunch of extras right off the bat, just BD and enjoy the process for a month or two first.

summerrain123 :  When you ovulate is a totally individual thing. I recently started charting and found I have long cycles (37-38 days) and O around day 22-23. Temping and using OPKs helped me get to this point. A rough gauge is to take you cycle length, subtract 14 days, and that’ll give you an idea as to when you ovulate. How long are your cycles?

I’d start with OPKs at the very least if you aren’t up for the commitment of temping.

I’ve conceived twice now (I have a 2 year old, and had a miscarriage this spring).  I have “typical” 28 day cycles, and both times I conceived we DTD on CD 11.  That said, we’ve done it on day 11 other months as well, and are still trying, but we definitely try to DTD on day 11 and as many days around it as we can.
