- Wedding: September 2020 - Summer Camp!
Cheese is totally an appetizer. I would say a happy medium is a baked Brie with maybe a blueberry compote on the side. I do think an alternative dessert would be nice for those who aren’t into cake (like a tart, as you mentioned).

amongclouds : Good call on being present for the tastings! What are the current dessert offerings? The reason I’m asking……as another PP suggested….if there are alternatives to cake, such as creme brûlée, tartufo, tart, pie, or any other number of things that aren’t cake, I would be fine with choosing from a seasonal menu and go with 2 desserts. I would say that out of a 100 people, the majority would choose a sweet dessert over cheese. Hence why we have dessert menus at restaurants (which I realize sometimes have cheese – sometimes). You should add a POLL!

Cheese plate, without question. That being said, I am not a cake person. Whatever you pick will be delicious 🙂

CHEESE!!! I love cheese but I rarely order a cheese plate when out at restaurants, because it’s hard to pass up dessert. But I would be SUCH a happy wedding guest if I got to have cake AND cheese!

Not sure if this makes a difference, but two of the people who eat very small serves of dessert are my future Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law. Sweets aren’t a big thing in their cultural background, but that hasn’t stopped some of my fiance’s aunts and uncles becoming enthusiastic bakers and taste-testers.
I also have an aunt and uncle who for fitness reasons don’t eat much sugar, but they might make an exception for the wedding. My side of the family is huge on cheese and will always bring gourmet cheeses when we meet up, but we also love dessert.

moissamight : pairing a cheese platter with wine after dinner is traditional in a lot of cultrues and social circles. I’d say it’s actually more common than serving it as an appetiser.
OP – I’d definitely go for the cheese platter! That way there is something for everyone. I’m not a huge dessert person, especially when I’m drinking alcohol, so I would be effing STOKED to chow down on a variety of cheeses post-dinner. The dessert-loving folk still get cake.
