Okay, so I’ve had a little snaffu with my current DJ. The owner had quoted me $2000 originally for DJ + Uplighting for 5 hours, and I’ve been in contact with the DJ who would be doing my wedding for 2-3 months now, but we were waiting on their site visit to actually sign the contract. The DJ kept getting busy or sick which is why it has been 2-3 months… actually no… I just looked at our first contact… it was the first week of January. So 4 months. Anyway, I finally heard back from this DJ and he quoted me almost DOUBLE that $2000, and the only thing above and beyond was a $200 travel fee (which they never mentioned before) and then 4 extra LED lights (above the package the quoted me). So 4 lights and travel fees almost double my original quote? Sorry, but almost $4000 is way too much to spend on a DJ and uplighting. I’ve asked them about it, but I haven’t gotten a reply yet. They are horrible about replying promptly. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It took 6 attempts to meet up with the DJ face to face (he kept cancelling on me for one reason or another).
Anyway, I started looking in to other options, but sadly there aren’t a LOT open 3 months before my wedding. Since I thought it would be $2000 I had kind of planned on going with this DJ… my mom seems to think they know that booking a DJ last minute is going to be hard, so she feels like they are TRYING to scalp us (but she can be paranoid). BUT I did find a pretty good, newer DJ company that works with a larger DJ company and an uplighting company. They replied almost INSTANTLY to my email. They can do pretty much what I want for just under $2000, but I get a less experienced DJ, and none of the special effects lighting or slide show that I had really wanted.
So… I am torn, should I book this 2nd company and keep within a reasonable price range, or go with the other DJ and try to negotiate the price down to what I was originally quoted or close to it? Thanks!
