Yes, ANOTHER dress post.
I already have a dress (as some of you might be aware of)- a lace mermaid from Pronovias. This is for my ‘real’ wedding. However, I also have a large reception in the city (about 280 people) which is paid for by my parents (and all guests are also their friends/family/etc.). My parents said I could get a cheap dress for this reception as they think I should not wear my Pronovias again (because they think a wedding dress should not be worn twice and also because with 280 people toasting and screaming, they’re quite certain my Pronovias will be ruined).
This is my first dress:
I’ve decided on the replica route and I am in a hurry as my wedding is in just a few weeks. As I said, my real dress is a lace mermaid so I am considering getting a dress which looks ‘different’ for the 2nd reception.
Which dress do you prefer?
i) Dress 1
ii) Dress #2
iii) Dress #3
iv) Dress #4
v) Dress 5

lot of choices. i like number 5

I like the idea of going with a princessy ballgown to get a different dress experience from the fitted mermaid. So 2 or 3.

#1 for sure! If I had the body type, that would be my dress!

I am a bit confused – is the reception is right after the ceremony? I love your dress and would try to get as much use out of it as you can. I don’t see how your original dress would be ruined during the reception, but if it was it is not like you would wear it again anyways? Sorry, I just think your dress is too beautiful to not wear it…

@Au Jardin: My ‘real’ wedding and reception is for about 40 people. The big reception for 280 people is a week later.

I actually had a replica of number 1 made and worn when Darling Husband and I eloped. That said I would just wear your ‘ real’ dress to both the reception and ceremony… That what the dress is for IMO and I’m sure the people at the reception would love to see your actual wedding dress.

I actually had a replica made of number 1, it turned out great and I loved it.
That said, if this isn’t a ‘real’ reception I wouldn’t wear a wedding dress. If probabl feel uncomfortable in a wedding dress if I wasn’t at my wedding.

I would vote to wear your original dress. My husband and I went to a wedding reception last summer. The couple had a small destination wedding with family and a month later a larger reception near their home. The bride wore her original dress. I liked that idea. It allowed everyone to see “the dress” and she saved money by wearing it again.

I really love your original and I don’t see any harm in wearing it again. But if you are getting a replica dress, I’d vote for 3, it looks like the simplest design, so it’s less likely to be screwed up by a replica company.

i would wear the original for sure. 280 people is what i’m expecting for my wedding and i don’t think it will be ruined… maybe a stain or two? sure, but that’s what the dry cleaner is for… and it’s not like you will be wearing it afterwards anyways.
still voted for nº 2 because it’s the one i like most of your options but your original is the best of all

I think 2 is the most like a fun party wedding dress, and the least like your real dress.

I love the idea of 2 or 3 as contrast to your wedding dress! I also think that the less detail in the dress you choose, the easier the replica dress will be to make! For example, I’ll frequently see dresses with ruffled skirts come out not quite to what brides desire…

First of all, your chosen dress is BEAUTIFUL! Love it! As your second dress, I picked #4 because I thought it was really lovely, but it might be hard to make a replica of the design and details.. Good luck!!
