I know this happens mostly for white dresses on guests but this is a little different. I couldn’t find a post that answered my question but I’m sure there’s one out there.
I picked out a satin black dress to wear to a wedding this weekend and I am a guest. I just found out the bridesmaids are wearing black… should I buy a new dress? (only own a couple)

I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but I imagine some brides out there might. I guess it depends on how uptight the bride is. I mean, it’s black, it’s a common color. So I’d think you’d be okay, I mean what if you didn’t know the bridesmaid’s colors (I usually don’t before a wedding)? Then you wouldn’t be expected to color coordinate. So I say wear it!

no. I always wear black dresses to weddings. It’s okay if the bridemaids are wearing black.
I’m sure you won’t be the only female guest wearing black. Just don’t walk around carrying a bouquet

Lots of guests wear black, it’s not a big deal. As long as you’re not wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids you’re fine.

Just dont wear the exact same dress and your good. Love the tip on not walking around with a bouquet too.

No, you should definitely wear it. Guests aren’t supposed to find out what the BMs dress colors are ahead of time and plan accordingly. Plus, she’s chose black she had to have known people would wear black.
I once attended a wedding and had on the same black dress as a Bridesmaid or Best Man (they were just asked to pick out a black, long dress). No one said anything – nor would I have really of cared – no way I could have known.

@Mrs. Mustang: i would get a diffrent dress ; )

Black is a very common/classic color, and as a guest, there is no reason you should know what color the bridesmaids are wearing prior to arriving at the wedding. The bride shouldn’t be surprised to see people other than the bridesmaids wearing black at the wedding.
My bridesmaids are wearing charcoal gray, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some non-wedding party guests show up in the same color. Don’t worry; wear the dress you have!

I feel much better now.

keep the dress you have- you definitely won’t be the only female guest in black. Like MsBookworm, my girls are wearing gray, and I’m sure other guests will have grey on as well.

meeeh i’d have to see the dress.
a satin black dress sounds very bridesmaidy. can you find out what kind of fabric/length/neckline the girls are wearing?

I think wearing a black dress to a wedding is just fine.

For those wondering, this is the dress (but in black) from jcpenney

I say you are fine. The majority of the guest don’t know the colors of the wedding and I think black is a popular color and it’s quite possible several people will be wearing.
