I’m going to be purchasing my dress online… having never tried it on… preowned. Dangerous right? I know. 🙁
I’ve tried on quite a few dresses by now (both high end and cheaper) and I know what style works for me. I look best in ball gowns and at a stretch, A-lines. Sadly, I’m also really picky… and after hours of crazy online research and trying in person, I think i’ve chosen the two dresses that I’m torn over. They’re both from Oscar de la Renta and both lovely. We haven’t really decided much in terms of themes etc. for our wedding yet but it will be a church ceremony and the reception will be a sit down formal-ish dinner.
I love how classic both dresses look (to me). One has a more vintage classic feel… the other is more modern. Lace… or plain silk faille?
Which of the two do you prefer?! Help a girl choose!! What do you like and dislike about each dress?
The first is this dress:
Body shape: I’m fairly petite… Probably a street size 4-6? I’m not too familiar with US sizing… but busty (28GG bra). Main concerns would be over how much cleavage is on show!!

@Crystal_Dreams: Can you post pics instead of links? Going to multiple links is cumbersome.

What size are you, ones a 4, the other a 10, if you are a 4, altering that one down to your size might take away from the shape, the 10 one, not the lace one?

I have found the dress both in a size 8 🙂 I can wear a size 6/8 Vera Wang gown with a few small alterations
Apologies for the huge post- I’m trying to fix the photos!! these are just pics that I’ve collected off the internet (yay google!)

I love the lace one. I love that super defined waist and then POOF!
Im not a fan of the first one. The layers are odd and choppy. I’m never a fan of asymmetry though.

Wow, both of those dresses are gorgeous. Have you tried on any dresses that are as “busy” on the bottom as dress 1? I ask because I loved photos of a dress that was somewhat similar to dress 1, but when I tried it on, the dress was wearing me instead of me wearing the dress. I’m 5’3″ and a street size 4, for reference. However, I don’t think you can go wrong with either dress, and I hope that you will post pics of you in your final choice when you get it.

I have! 🙂 I tried on quite a few Vera Wang dresses which were lovely in their own right- they were much more busy than this IMO (though gorgeous). I just wasn’t feeling it!! I find that Veras tend to have lots of lovely layers and ruffles and lace (I tried on Diana, Kendall, Esther, Gemma… can’t remember the names of the others!)

- Wedding: May 2013 - Pavilion overlooking golf course scenery, reception at banquet hall
I love the second one. The first reminds me of a blanket.

Definitely #1 – I love that skirt!! It’s unusual and beautiful!

@Crystal_Dreams: I think this is the first time a bide has asked for opinions on two dresses, but I love both equally! I really can see why you’re undecided. Those are both knock out gorgeous dresses. I love Oscar de la Renta’s wedding gowns. I guess, in the end, I would go with #1 because it says “church wedding and sit down formal dinner” to me more than #2. The second dress is so very romantic it seems to be calling out to be worn at an equally romantic venue. Like a candlelit ceremony at a historic mansion.
Good luck, either way you’ll look fabulous!

I like the 2nd dress the best 🙂

you can’t go wrong with either, they are both stunning!

@Crystal_Dreams: Dress 2 hands down! So dreamy!
Can I be nosey and ask what a 28GG bra size looks like? I’ve never hard of a bra size going lower than 32″!
