I’m looking for a mother of the bride dress for my mom. My wedding colors are magenta, ivory, and chartreus and hints of gold. I will attach my dress, my bridesmaid dress and 2 options for my mom to wear. What do you think fits the style of the wedding the best. My moms heart is set on the steel gray but I just don’t think it flows with the rest of the wedding party. We found a second option for her but now can’t decide.
2 mother options -buff floor length of lace steel gray

tkala: I voted the steel gray, think that fits in with your theme.

The gray one does not blend in with the bridal party dresses, which I think is a plus. Your mom should be a proud MOB! The gray dress is way cute too!

tkala: Since when does the MOB have to match with the “wedding party”?
My mother bought the dress she wanted and felt beautiful in.
If your mother likes the steel gray dress, she should wear the steel gray dress.
My Future Mother-In-Law is wearing a peacock green blinged out gown and my mother is wearing a navy blue beautiful shiffon beaded gown. My event is formal so they are dressed formal. That’s it

Mom’s dress doesn’t have to match your bridesmaids dresses. My colors were light blue and ivory. My mom wore a deep purple dress. The steel gray dress is very pretty.

What about this dress? It’s long, but still has that steel grey color. Your mom might like it:

I prefer the lace dress, the other is a bit too busy for my taste. The lace is much more sophisticated and fits in better with the general “feel” of the other dresses.
And totally off topic but I love your bridesmaid’s dresses.

The steel gray is gorgeous and I agree with PP she doesn’t need to match and it would look weir dif she did

I love the steel gray. It goes with the other dresses well. I would totally wear that dress too… doesn’t look like the stuffy old MOB dresses that a lot of places sell (what my mom would call Grandma of the Bride dresses).

I wore long, formal gowns, to both my daughters’ weddings, because their bridesmaids also wore long, formal gowns. I didn’t match – colorwise, at all.
For both weddings, photos of the 3 of us had the bride, in the middle, so my gown color really didn’t matter. (Their father and husbands all wore black tuxedos). #1 me, silver blue- daughter the bridesmaid, eggplant – for #2 me, royal blue (match my eyes) – daughter the bridesmaid venetian gold.
In both cases, the mother of the groom wore a black, long gown. Both were black tie weddings. If your wedding is formal, I think you mother would look best, in a long gown.
Her coloring plays into it, too. Although I personally like the buff gown better (I love beading and don’t like lace), I have a pale skin tone and am a blonde, so I’d look washed out, in the buff color.

I think that buff dress is gorgeous. That one got my vote.

I’d let her wear whatever color she wants to be honest. I don’t think she needs to match anything.
