After lurking on this board for a few months I’ve finally decided I should purchase a copy of an etiquette book for myself.
I’ve heard many recommendations for Emily Post and have decided to buy one of the editions of her Etiquette. I have read some of the online copy of her first edition and I quite enjoy her style, but some of the topics were truly outdated.
My question for you bees is this: do you have a recommendation for which edition I should buy?
If you own or have read one, which edition, and would you recommend that one? Are there any I should avoid?
I could get an older edition and have a clear sense of Emily Post’s rules, and get to read her lovely style, but I am new to this and will have to try to adapt it to make it relevant to me today.
Or perhaps a newer edition to have one that speaks to today’s issues more specifically but that might be missing Emily Post’s lovely style and specific rules. (I have heard the new 18th edition has been completely rewritten and possibly watered down?)
Is there an edition out there that’s useful for contemporary issues but that isn’t too… casual?
I want to learn the proper way to do things so I don’t accidentally take my friend’s bread plate (again)!
