(Closed) Which flavour soup for wedding reception?

  • poll: Which flavour soup?

    Mushroom and Tarragon

    Carrot and Corriander

Pea and Ham (with alternative for vegetarians)

    Butternut squash chilli and lime

    Butternut squash and roasted peppers

A different variation of butternut squash (please tell me!)

    A different suggestion altogether

We’re doing butternut squash soup at our reception, and I can’t wait! Yum!

I’d go with something a little more common.

Squash and peppers for sure… common enough so that people will have eaten it before, but not nearly as boring as mushroom etc etc

@Steampunkbride:  +1 to leek and potato. I wouldn’t eat any on the list above and neither would DH, but we would eat that one.

ETA: I voted for carrot and coriander, so move that one to other! 🙂

I picked chili lime squash, but any version of squash soup would make me happy.  I think most people like squash soup, Fiance hates it so I never make it anymore 🙁  You could also do a potato soup if you don’t think people will like the squash.

@Steampunkbride:  mmm! I’m with you — potato and leek soup! And simple for vegetarians as well.

How about borcht? It often has beef, but they can just make it vegetarian. Beets are just coming into season and I’ve been getting really nice ones coming into my restaurant.

In the poll, I voted mushroom and tarragon, but I’m not crazy about dairy free mushroom soup. Unless those lactase enzyme pills work for your fiancé.

Mushroom and taragon if I had to choose from that list. But I tend to be a creamy soup but with the lactose intolerance of your future hubby that definitely is not doable in your case.

@Bazingau:  I agree. Most butternut squash soups I’ve had do contain cream. Doesn’t hurt to verify that with the caterer.

@rambini:  I didn’t vote. I think you should pick whatever the food vendor makes that tastes the best!

@rambini:  I have celiacs too, I feel your pain! Food allergies/intolerances etc justs stink. Have you considered a pumpking soup? You will an October bride. I think that would be interesting for guests to try.

(for vegetarians they can sub the chicken stock with veggie stock).

This site has 10 different pumpkin soup recipes- I am sure you can modify at least 1 of them.

Butternut squash is very fall. Go with one of those.

We did a great leek asparagus soup – I think both those ingredients always sound a little fancier, and there are ways to thicken without actual cream.
