So, I am working on our video. One song that I will be using is the Beatles classic “In My Life” I have narrowed it down to a couple of versions that I really, really like.
Allison Crowe- She does such a lovely job with this song. The fact that it is coming from a female voice makes it a tad bit different, but it is still pretty traditional at the same time. It is definitely more of an actual song than the second option:
Johnny Cash- Even for those that do not like country music, and I am not a HUGE fan of it, JC’s style is so classic. His version is a little shorter and not quite as drug out. Also, I don’t know much about Allison Crowe, but Johnny and June Carter Cash had a timeless romance, one for the ages- I think that adds a sweet touch. But, also, I know Johnny Cash is not everyone’s cup of tea. In that aspect, I see where Allison Crowe’s is a bit more neutral.
Neither one has the original bridge, which I love….but due to time constraints, it probably would have been cut out anyway.

I personally like Chantal Kreviazuk’s version the best but between the two, I’d go with Allison Crowe.

I am not a big fan of beatles covers generally speaking as I am a huge beatles fan, but that Johnny Cash brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t really like the Alison Crowe one at all. I vote Johnny Cash 100%.

If you’re not going to do the original Beatles, I would definitely do Johnny Cash.

hi melynn ~
I have the joy of serving as manager to Allison Crowe. I can tell you – she lives for love!
It’s delightful to know you’ve discovered Allison’s music, and in connection with such a meaningful moment in your life.
Should you end up deciding you want to go with one of her versions of The Beatles’ “In My Life” – please, PM me or email me and I’ll be happy to get you a hi-fi audio file, in any format, as our gift for your wedding.
The one version you’ve heard online sounds kinda rough to me – it’s likely several generations away from being an original file. fyi, here are, as far as I know, the best tracks available online:
These are two different performances – and you may find one or the other is more right. (The video take is a little softer, and the audio-only performance is a touch bolder, imo.)
Allison was fortunate enough to perform the song for John Lennon’s family and friends a few years ago at a festival in John’s honour in Scotland. They loved it. As a lifelong Beatles fan, myself, for Allison and I, it’s a life moment we’ll always remember and cherish 🙂
In any event, very best wishes for your happiness and upcoming marriage! cheers, Ad

Fiance is a big fan of Johnny Cash, so I am sure that would be his choice. I honestly prefer the Allison Crowe version a bit more. So, I guess we are no closer to a decision than we were 2 months ago.
However, we are now trying to figure out a song for the finale of the slideshow.
Here is a link to the poll, if you’d like to check it out.
