I’ve found these really cute monogrammed canvas tote bags I’d like to get my bridesmaids, but they only allow for one initial (sounds weird, but trust me, they’re really cute!)
My question is, do i use their first name for the initial or their last name? My first inclination is to use the first letter of their first name since a few of them aren’t married yet and will still be able to use them if they change their last names after getting married. But, is this too juvenile?
I think even after getting married, I’d prefer a bag with the letter of my first name for some reason. What do you all think? If you received a bag with only your first name’s inital on it, would you think it’s weird?

I’d go with their first name, since it won’t change. As far as seeming juvenile, I think you’re fine. It’s not like you’re bedazzling or airbrushing their name on it. 🙂

lol, thanks for the reassurance! definitely no bedazzling or airbrushing! 🙂 The first thing that came to mind initially was the huge “L” from Laverne and Shirley, but i agree that for practical purposes it’s the better choice.

I think for girls first because as you said, their last name can change. I got my girls robes with their first initial on them, but for the gm’s toiletry bags, we put their last initial since we know that will never change no matter what their marital status is.

I was in a wedding last year and we all received monogrammed tote bags! We loved them and they had our FIRST name initial on them. Great gift idea!

Normally I would say first letter of your last name, but for something like this I think you’re right to go with their first initial.

I would go with first name.
