    For a casual wedding where all the guests are local, I think the gap is preferable to the heat.  I am extremely heat sensitive and would be miserable outdoors in 90+ degree weather, even with a tent.  No way I’d be dancing, and I would probably leave within an hour.  That’s way, way too hot to be having an outdoor party.

    Gaps are a PITA for guests, but since everyone is local, they can go home in between, and since it’s a casual wedding they won’t have to sit around their houses in formalwear for hours. 

    ETA: So they’re set on the afternoon reception.  Are they set on it being outside?  Will they consider an indoor option?

    Sorry you are stressing.Everything will work out.If it is hot people will be slightly uncomfortable.You said they are all too young to drink,so maybe the heat will not be as big of an issue for them.

    Sometimes our budgets prohibit us from having everything we desire.I know mine does.Have a good day.
