I’m new posting here on Weddingbee, but it has so far been an amazing source of inspiration! I have already made a decision on my dress, which I love and I cannot wait for it to arrive for my first fitting. in the meantime however, I’ve been searching for a lace top to wear with it. I just love the elegant look of lace sleeves… My FMIL doesn’t agree with me on this, she thinks a top will take away from the dress and that I really don’t need it. What do you all think? I’ve narrowed the selection down to two contestants, both from Alex bridal / Tulip bridal. I love the look of the first top, but I’m not sure if it will look good with my lace dress, as it may take away from the lace of the dress itself, sitting over the bustline. The second top is a better match lace wise, but doesn’t show off the neckline as well as the first.
My dress is all lace, slim A-line with a sweetheart neckline. I have also added a close up of the lace on the dress (full picture of the dress isn’t me, but the model pic… don’t want to risk anyone recognising me and seeing the dress, and as I’m at work, no chance to blur my face in my own pics)
I’ll be wearing a chapel or cathedral lenght drop veil with a cut edge with it (haven’t made my mind up yet on veil length).
As both tops are from Tulip bridal, anyone out there who has bought from them before? Do they run true to the sizing information on their website?

sorry the pics turned out so big!!

I like the first as the neckline stands out more and doesn’t get lost in the lace pattern, but I also think that maybe where the lace overlaps will look a little odd (sorry!). Even though the dress would be lovely on its own, I love the idea of a sheer top because it makes it slightly different. Maybe something like the first but just without the patterened edge on the bottom?

I like the first one. The point d’esprit makes it look more youthful.

@cece_intheuk I agree that the lace overlap may look odd with the first top. Haven’t been able to find another top in the same price range that has a similar neckilne, but is a better match in lace patterns. I’m not willing to spend 300 euros on a top, so I have no other options than to order online… scary! 😉
@novacaineandlaughter Having a love/hate relationship with it right now: love it as it is indeed more youthful (and I tend to love anything with polka dots), but worried how it will make the lace of my dress look once it sits over the dress…
Thank you both for your honest comments! I find it so hard to make these kind of decisions…

I really like the second one. It’s really romantic and goes better with your dress.

I wonder if it’d work if you could tuck the lace into the dress and therefore avoid the overlap? not sure how comfortable this would be though….
i’ve had similar issue with my dress, which is a lace a-line but the lace is thicker (alecon maybe? i’m not sure) mine has eyelash lace at the top aswell though so i decided that a lace bolero would be too much.
i’ve actually just ordered a wrapor shrug in tulle today in the hope that it’ll just cover enough for me to feel comfortable without detracting from the dress too much (sorry can’t work out how to post a link on here, my browser keeps blocking it!) not sure where you are though, i’m in the uk so they’re fairly local to me.
here’s my dress for an idea although i’m changing the belt and making the top into a slight sweetheart…

@casperbride love your dress! It does look like your lace is slightly heavier than mine, I did see those wrapor shrugs online, but what I love about those off the shoulder tops is the buttons closure at the back. That’s also the reason to wear it over the dres instead of underneath. I’ll keep the wrapor suggestion, thanks for that. Would also save somewhat on postage, as I’m in the netherlands.
@newyearseve @tcgstar True, the second top almost matches the lace of my dress

the second one for sure 🙂

I like the second one. The first one looks like you’re pointing in between your cleavage.

I think that the second one goes beautifully with your dress!

I have the second one and love it. Seems to run a wee bit small

@lacebride82: Love the second one as it has more lace and think it goes better with the lace on your dress.

The second one is perfect! The first one is super distracting to me and doesn’t match, in my opinion. The second one is very elegant.
