- Wedding: January 2011
Which Maggie Sottero Allison Marie dress should I keep for myself? I kind of bought two of the same dress. hahaha I am so embarrassed but I need your opinions in helping me decide! So please no smart remarks 🙂
My wedding is on 1/1/2011 and I didn’t have much time to get the dress. A bridal shop was able to secure a brand new, size 8, dress that would be available straight from the manufacturer 12/13/2010. The bridal shop would expedite the dress to me and should get to me no later 12/18/2010. I already paid a $200 deposit to hold the dress. And I expect to pay the bridal shop another $650 to get the dress plus the shipping costs. I expect to alter it by having it taken in, hemmed to be shorter, and have bra cups sewn in. I was quoted $250. Imagine, I need to get everything perfect in two weeks before the wedding.
Well the same day I put down the deposit, I found the same dress that was once wed (used). The bride was the same height and same size as me. It is a size 6, hemmed to our height, and bra cups already in. Plus there is a bustle. It fits me perfect in every way. I just need to get it dry cleaned and I’d be ready to go. She sold it to me for $200.
I purchased the used dress thinking that I could cancel my new dress order. Only the bridal shop had already confirmed with the manufacturer to get that new dress for me. And so I believe I may be legally obligated to pay the remaining balance of that new dress, even if I don’t want it.
Anyway, here’s where I need your opinion. Should I keep the new dress and stress about getting the alterations done in a short period of time and spend more money? (Getting it expedited from the bridal shop would add to the costs too). The positive thing here is that I would have a brand new dress that no one has ever worn or even tried on at a store.
Or should I just keep the used dress? The positive is that it fits me perfectly.
I’m looking to resell one or possibly both dresses. So that is to take into consideration too. Do I have a better shot at selling the new dress unaltered, unused, and brand new with tags at close to my retail price? This new dress is not petite size. Or if I decide to use the new dress and get it altered, would it be possible to sell both dresses that can only fit a short girl like myself at around $500 each? I don’t mean to confuse anyone. But what do you brides and bride-to-bees think? Which one should I keep for my wedding? These pix are the used dress only to give you an idea how it fits. I obviously don’t have the new dress yet.
