Harrison Ford, but as Jack Ryan.  This might be seen as cheating a bit – while the character became President in the books, I don’t think they ever got that far into the series with the movies.  I’d still vote for him though.

So, women have a bad day on the Weddingbee movie US president thread. Only one woman to choose from and she doesn’t get many votes. All but one of the alternative suggestions are male too. (Hollywood has a lot to answer for in its lack of imagination when it comes to female roles.)

If I have to choose an American actress from a movie involving a US president I would choose Annette Bening from the film ‘The American President”.  The character she plays eventually becomes the president’s wife but clearly has much more about her than Michael Douglas’s president.

In real life the actress easily has more awards from stage and screen than all the male actors suggested put together.

If you were to give me free reign and let me choose a British actor I would choose Dame Maggie Smith in the guise of Professor Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter films. She would be able to see off any number of Trumps and Clintons with a single icy glance.

Come on everyone.  Surely you can think of some actress characters who would be great as presidents.  Bernadette from the Big Bang Theory, perhaps. How cool would that be?

I can’t believe just how unfeminist you lot are.  many of you are 20-30 years younger than I am.  Surely you don’t still think that a person needs to be male to be an authority figure.

    Have some fun.  Please.

Captain Janeway.  And no, I don’t care that she wasn’t a president.  If Picard can be nominated, so can Janeway!

Or, even better, Princess Leia (especially in her General role, now that she has more experience under her belt) from Star Wars.  Now THERE’S a leader I could get behind.

Glenn Close. She was VP in Air Force one but I love her. If I could choose ANY actress though, regardless of role Maryl Streep all the way. That woman can do no wrong

Probably President Bartlet from TWW. What a man!

Where strong women are concerned I wouldnt look beyond Capt Janeway as mentioned already.
