My Hubby has been going back and fourth between these two. Would love to just get a general conscensus. Just FYI though please refrain from making alternate suggestions or letting me know if you hate both names. I prefer the ignorance is bliss route on that tip. Thanks for your input.

@Audreysdance: Both are pretty good. I was leaning toward Tor until I heard the source for Han!! HAN ALL THE WAY!

The Star Wars loving geek in me just loves Han.
Despite geeking out Han really is a nice and unique but very strong name for a guy. Edward is also a nice, common pairing with it so it’s not overly weird or trendy…if that makes sense. lol
I also think Han Edward sounds better than Tor Edward.

I prefer Han McCarthy.
Are you saying that “Tor” is supposed to be pronounced “THor” (I don’t know what you mean by “phonetically Scandinavian”)? If that’s the case, then think twice because no one in the US will know to pronounce it that way and I know quite a few people with names that aren’t spelled as they are pronounced and hated having to constantly correct people.

@BothCoasts: No Tor will be pronounced with a hard T. THOR spelling is prouncounded hard T in scandanavia but not here.

I prefer Han! I like the ring of Han Edward McCarthy.

@Audreysdance: Ah, okay.
But still like Han better 🙂

Tor is cool, but I love Han.

Han is a very cool name, Star Wars geeking out aside 🙂

I like Tor because it is so strong sounding. My cousin named their baby Finn because they wanted something from where our ancestors came from. Such a neat idea. Now I have seen Finn on TV shows and such. I think it’s neat to see unique names. Good luck trying to decide. you might wait until you might the little one and it come to you as to which to choose. Just a thought.

While I like the SW reference, I think “Tor” rolls off the tongue better as a first name.

I love the name Tor. I knew a Tor once- very proud of his Scandanavian heritage, and VERY good looking ;). They’re both great names, but I think Tor sounds stronger.

I went with Tor. I think Han Solo is awesome, but I foresee the kid getting teased in school to no end. At least since we usually Say THor instead of Tor, nobody will equate your kid with the god of thunder and tease him about where his hammer and cape are.
