My husband and I are leaning toward naming our daughter Ella, but we’re stuck on a middle name.
I kind of like Ella Claire, which combines two of the first names we were torn between. But neither name has any significance for us, and that rules out us using Claire later on if we have another daughter.
Ella Jean uses my middle name, which is also my mom’s middle name and my grandma’s middle name. DH isn’t crazy about the name itself or the combination. And while he doesn’t really care about tradition, I feel a little bad that it doesn’t incorporate his family at all.
Ella Jane is kind of a compromise, combining my mom’s (and my) middle name of Jean, and DH’s mom’s middle name of Ann. Again, he really doesn’t care much about tradition, but I like the idea of our daughter kind of being named after someone in our families.
Which of the three would you pick, or would you keep brainstorming? Our last name is a single syllable and doesn’t start with the same letter as any of these, if that helps.

I like Ella Jean, but I am a sentamental person. My daughter will have the middle name Marie becuase that is my mom’s middle name, mine, and it also runs in DH’s side as well.
I do like Ella Claire though, but said together it sounds kind of run on.

I love a meaningful middle name, so voted for Jean 🙂 I like the attempt of Jane, but it’s a bit of a stretch for me.

I like the sound of Ella Jean best. Ella Claire has too many Ls… just doesn’t sound good to my ear.

How about Ella Jeanne? Pronounced (G-Ann) That combines both special names into one legit name! 🙂 Otherwise I like Jane or Claire.

When I initially looked at the poll, I liked Ella Claire the best. But after reading your post, I voted for Ella Jean. I think it would be nice to incorporate the tradition! You can always use a name from DH’s side for #2.

I love Ella (dd keeps saying she wants her babysister to be naned Ella!). Honestly not crazy about the middles names you listed. Ella Claire is the best I think.
I love Ella Grace.

I really don’t think you can go wrong, though Ella Claire does sound a little bit like Elle Eclair.

@EffieTrinket: +1… Didn’t notice that. I originally voted for Ella Claire. I want to change mine to Ella Jean.
