@ayala88:  I’d pick the first one, under those circumstances.  Just send out Save the Dates-early enough, so they prepare to spend time at your wedding and not schedule something else that weekend.

    You should add a poll!

Also, I’d pick July 7th. I think the Pros outweigh the Cons. With enough notice, they don’t have to have plans that Sunday. With that date I definitely recommend some kind of Save the Date.

I think I would go with the 7th.  Your group sounds small enough that it’s likely made up of folks that would put “the regular 4th of July picnic weekend” or something aside to attend your wedding.

I voted for the 14th because after a holiday weekend, people may be burnt out by the end of it(last day). And you want lots of happy people. Also, after having a a holiday weekend they may want to rest up to return to work on Monday. My thinking is also based on my work, which we  would be off 4th of July and that Friday. So by Sunday after doing activities I would probably be ready to be a couch potatoe. BUT then again, it is your wedding so people would most likely come, tired or not.

Also, because of being in CA, most of the people I know go camping, camping at the lake, or the beach for 4th of July, which is why I said people will be tired and burnt out. That really depends on your location though. We have a warmer climate, so those activies are alot more common.

I didn’t vote but when I was picking my wedding date, a lot of people were discouraging me from picking weekends near/on a holiday. I still don’t totally see the problem but my family was  adamant that people weren’t going to change their family vacations or holiday plans to go to my wedding and that people I wanted to come may not make it. I see their point because when I’ve been invited to weddings and they conflicted or involved me changing holiday/family plans around, I didn’t go either. I thought having it on a holiday weekend would make travel easier but it may just make it more expensive for flying or more inconvenient. I don’t think either date is bad though…. July 7th isn’t the day after a holiday or anything. Hope that helps!

@ms.christmas_deer:  I see what your family says, because we typically have every holiday planned the year before because we travel/go camping alot. So for us, if we already have plans, unless it’s close family, we wouldn’t cancel them. That sounds harsh, but it’s the way it is lol

I voted the 14th because its a month after my birthday :P. I think both are good options. I’m not sure everyone will have a longer weekend on the 7th. Are both dates available with all of your vendors? They probably are (we just started trying to book things for August 2013 and everything was wide open) but if its the difference between a slightly more convenient date for your guests and your dream venue go for the venue.

@JlovesM:  Exactly. Once I started thinking about it, it made a lot of sense. Also for a lot of people, major holidays are their only time for vacation and I don’t blame them for not wanting to change it!

@ms.christmas_deer:  Yes, for me, I only get major holidays off, all the others that schools, banks, etc get off, I work. So thats why we plan so far in advance, I love my mini-vacays
