I vote Hawaii! Only because Alaska=cold, and a cruise is kind of a ready made vacation. Darling Husband refuses to cruise…he’s an explorer..(he looks like an explorere sitting on the beach the entire day and eating huge meals at every restaurant we can find)

Also, because the beach. And, I’ve never been!

Hmm… I think I’d lean towards Hawaii.  I’ve never been to Alaska or the Carribbean, but I’ll try to defend my opinion a bit.

I’ve been on a cruse.  Granted, it was Europe and very itinerary heavy, but I didn’t find there was much room for unfettered exploration, and you missed out on the night life aspect a bit.  We’re not big club people, but really loved our few days in the city beforehand where we could explore at our leisure and wander into random restaurants for dinner.  I found the actual cruise was a little more about the social aspect.

And Alaska, I could just be biased because I live in BC which looks a little similar and has some of the same wildlife within easy driving distance, so it’s just not that interesting to me.

I’ve been to Maui, and thought that was pretty cool.  Lots of kiteboardind/parasailing/snorkelling/riding bikes down a volcano, driving scene roads and checking out little towns.  Just really relaxing and self-directed, but still safe feeling.  And the temperature is like… sexy perfect.  Just hot enough that you want to dress in skimpy clothes, but not so sweltering that you’re like… ugh, don’t touch me.

a cruise means your stuck on a ship. i dont like that

hawaii was my pick, but then it seems too common.

I’ve been to all 3 places. and I would pick the Big Island. There’s not much to do at night there though. But you said you wanted adventure and the volcano and moana kea are very adventurous and worth the trip to the island. Alaska and the Mexico cruise….they’re both nice, but I guess it depends on where you’re going in those places. Hawaii will probably have the best weather out of the 3 in December as well.

Hawaii without question. Alaska isn’t really my idea of a honeymoon although I’m sure it’s gorgeous. And cruises don’t appeal to me. I would much rather me on land and have the freedom to roam than stuck on a ship being corralled like cattle lol. But, this is just my opinion!

Ive been on a cruise to Alaska… its was beautiful but there werent a lot of young couples there…. it was pretty low key and i definitley reccommend going but maybe when your older… much older…

The cruise thing was fun but only go for 7 days… the boat can be pretty boring at times and you have to run on the cruises schedule…

I chose Hawaii because you have the freedom to do what you want when you want… and its probably got a mixture of relaxing and fun

I would choose Alaska!  Because I have not been there…  I just love the energy of the ocean and the mountains and Alaska coast has both.  I think it would be a great place to go for an adventure.  I love Big Island Hawaii!  I lived there for a summer and there is a lot of adventure to be had.  I personally would not choose a cruise because I would feel more limited in my ability to adventure and have spontaneity and get away.

Mexican cruise – we love mexico its cheap, the peolple are so friendly and we love pina coladas! lol plus with a cruise you get to see more places and you end up meeting others who are doing the same thing, we are the friend making type, I would love to have a life long friendship with another couple we met on a cruise!

IMO… Time of year is key to this answer

Alaska Cruise is good Spring thru Fall (best weather is July & August)… and although the cruise lines attract an older clientele on these runs (50+)… this is something I’d recommend that a couple do when they are younger and more agile, because Alaska is amazing, and has a lot of “active” adventures, that older folks can’t do or appreciate.  Ideally, looking back I should have done Alaska when I was in my late 30s or early 40s.

BUT to do Alaska and the North up-right, you really need 2 to 3 weeks… so you can cruise, but also do a lot of land exploration (ie Northern BC, the Yukon, Alaska)… maybe trek back thru The Canadian Rockies on the return south.

Caribbean Cruising… and you want to aim for December thru May (June thru November is Hurricane Season… and for the Gulf of Mexico, that hits hardest in the Fall).  Also Spring, Summer and Fall… and the Caribbean can just be too dang hot to even be enjoyable !!

Winter & Spring are the best Seasons weather wise for visiting Hawaii.

If you haven’t done so already check out TripAdvisor (the Internets best info for Travel Planning)… there is a TON of info on that Website… Travel Guides – Reviews for Hotels, Restaurants & Things to Do… as well as Boards / Forums where you can post Questions and chat with folks who know the areas best.

Likewise TA’s sister website Cruise Critic is a MUST for anyone planning a cruise vacation.  Again a TON of great info on Cruiselines, Destinations, Itinerarys, and Ships (you can even find out how good the cabin you have in mind is… or how to find a better one for a lower price !!).  Again they have a Website that is chocked full of great insider info… and Boards where you can ask Questions and get great help / advice.

I will not go on vacation, or plan a cruise ever again without consulting TA or CC first.

    Hope this helps,

We want to go to Alaska so badly, but it’s an expensive trip! There’s so many neat and fun things to do there. Hopefully with some budgeting and finger crossing we can make it happen though.

I’ve been on an Alaskan cruise and on a Hawaiiian cruise. They are both spectacular in their own ways. But if your only going to the Big Island vs Alaska, I would vote Alaska. The Big Island was our least favorite part of the trip.
