I’d rather do a photobooth.  caricature’s are very time consuming, thats the one big drawback. while i would love to have one done, i wouldn’t want to be waiting in a line for the whole reception, ya know?

You may want to see if your photographer has an assistant or maybe hire a photographer to set up a photo backdrop instead. You could probably find a local photographer to stay about 3 hours for about the same cost or less than the other 2 options.

Hmmm. Well, we’re getting a photobooth, so I already chose what I want for me, but as a guest both could be cool. Maybe you could ask the caricature artist to photograph each one before giving them away? (That might cost extra, or be worth a bigger tip.)

    What do you really want?

I love caricatures, but I do agree that they’re time consuming, and much harder to keep – they’re generally large, which makes them harder to display/put in an album/whatever than a photo. Plus, like you mentioned, you wouldn’t get a copy!

I noticed you are on the east coast! If you are going to go with something like this, I am getting a “photo bench” Its $600 for the whole day (3-8) and we get unlimited prints, a copy of all the pictures on CD, and rights to all the pictures! PM me and I can give you the details.  Great deal I think!

What about a DIY “fauxtobooth”? A couple of the Bees have blogged about theirs with detailed instructions- that’s the route I have in mind. Might be a little more work on your part but could be way more affordable and give you closer to what you want.

Oh wow, I never thought of caricature~! I voted for photo booth because I love them, but I honestly think the caricatures would be just as much fun!

We had a caricature artist come to our college for a couple events, and even though it sounds fun, it was actually way more fun to have our photos taken at the photobooth. I would do a DIY faux-to-booth or look into some cheaper options and go that route.

We’re doing a DIY photobooth – it’s not SUPER simple, but it’s not difficult either (promise!).  We’re probably spending about $150 on the whole darn thing, and there’s no time limit or equipment rental since we’ll own everything.  Might want to give it a thought?

Wouldn’t go for the drawings.  I couldn’t sit still for that long during a wedding reception 🙂

@canthugallcats: That’s what I did – our photographer brought an assistant/second shooter, whose primary role during the reception was to man the DIY photo booth. Cost for the second photographer was about $400 (that included 8 hours, by the way) and we spent less than $100 on background/props. The photos rocked!

^ Hey! There’s so much info online about how to do your own photobooth, and even software you can download to your laptop.  We’re using one of our regular Canon cameras, the space bar on the computer, and a photo printer (and also saving the photos to disc)… and that’s IT.  Seriously piece of cake.  🙂
