We’ve opted to go with pocket squares instead of boutonnieres. Groom is going to wear a charcoal suit, the Groomsmen are in black suits, and everyone is wearing a white shirt and the tie below.
We’re trying to decide on pocket squares and are pretty sure we’re going to go with linen (vs. silk or cotton) and probably with a flat or one point fold.
The question is – what pocket square should we go with? These are all from The Tie Bar (where we’re getting the ties from) so I’ve limited it to what they have in linen but I would be open from getting them elsewhere if they were $10 or less
1. White pocket square with coloured border (black, charcoal, violet, plum, dark purple)
2. Plain white
4. Grey with pink dots

Would you consider doing a different pocket square for the groomsmen & the groom?
I like the idea of a solid charcoal square for the guys (point at the top) & a solid black one for the groom (also pointed at the top).

@medbride: I assume you meant you are going with a pocket square instead of a boutonniere?
Is your event very formal? You’re showing the groomsmen in a tuxedo and the groom in a suit, which would be unusual.

@julies1949: whoops! Edited that.
The event is going to be semi-formal (not black tie or anything) and they’ll all be in suits. I just pulled some pics down from google which is why they show both tux and suit in the pictures showing the pocket square folds

@MrsSkeletonKey: I had thought of that, I’ll have to bring it up with him. Initially he was going to have a different tie so it might be a different way of distinguishing what he’s wearing. I’ll have to look and see if they have solid charcoal and black in linen, or source them from somewhere else. Thanks for the idea!

I like the gray/pink pindot the best since they’re wearing solid suits and shirts. My second choice would be one of the bordered squares with a colored edge (not black or charcoal). I think it fits best with the casual plaid of the tie. I also think a flat fold is your best bet here. The tie is fun and casual, but the point fold is a bit fussy.

@medbride: I really like the pink 🙂

What color are the bridesmaids wearing?

@mrsztobee: Bridesmaids are in black. Flowers are TBD but probably pinks/creams/whites

@Groominator: I really like the pindot as well, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to convince him that it will look good since we’re ordering online and won’t be able to see them together. Nice to have input from a male, thanks!

Don’t wear a grey pocket square with a charcoal suit. There is not enough contrast, and it will just look kind of muddy.

I agree with Duncan, I think more contrast would be nice.
I also like the idea of the groom having a different colour pocket square. Maybe a pink one for the groom and violet border squares for the other guys? And flat fold, absolutely! Maybe it’s just me but the point fold seems more like something an elderly gentleman would wear.

I really like the pink. There is a lovely blue colour in the tie too, I would pick that colour out.

Gray w pink dits, i love it!

I don’t think the groom should wear a gray pocket square with a gray suit. Plus, with the different pattens, I think the gray and pink pocket square would clash with the ties.
I like the pink pocket squares.
