Tiggy24 :  Over the years, I’ve had all of the moissanite flavours smile I either have or have had the original 6H moissanite – enhanced and non-enhanced, regular round brilliant and H&A cut. I currently have the new 4H moissanite in both round brilliant and H&A cuts and I have an AG Ultra as well as a few diamond pieces. By far, the nicest looking moissanites that I have are a pair of really well cut round brilliant original 6H moissanite earrings. I am a moissanite convert and, for me, moissanite is superior to diamond on multiple fronts. I too am very open about what I have – I love it and think moissy is the perfect option for jewellery.

Having said that, there is a difference in performance between moissanite and diamond (as there should be – they are different materials) and, depending on how well cut the moissanite is, it is more or less obvious. Most, if not all, will never know that it’s not a diamond and this includes jewellers. I’ve experienced this myself even with my non H&A pieces – heck, my AG tests positive as a diamond on testers designed to test for moissanite.

The issue is really that there are no cut standards for moissanite (yet) like there are for diamonds and even diamond cuts have evolved (and continue evolving) over the years. I really do believe that, as moissanite gains popularity, cut standards will be developed and moissanite will be sold with grading reports. Only then can the consumer know what they are purchasing. I still think that the best bang for your buck when purchasing a H&A cut moissanite is the AG Eternity followed by re-sellers who really know their moissanite (eg Moissaniteco.com) and can identify a well cut stone for you.

Caveat – the only time your ring would be questioned is the perceived “size to income ratio.” So if you purchase a D colour 4ct moissanite (diamond cost = $130,000 to $187,000 depending on other parameters) your family, friends and aquaintances are likely to question your ability to afford such a large “diamond.”

I also should add that static pictures of the stones don’t tell the full picture because, yes, they look similar. In order to notice the difference in scintillation you need to see them in videos and really look closely – as I said, if you look carefully at the 35 second mark on the AG challenge video you can see that the diamond is a hair livelier.

Here are a couple videos I found helpful… This shows good video so you can see the difference in sparkle etc. There are two parts…

    Part 1 https://youtu.be/87vzNx58DlM

    Part 2 https://youtu.be/Qu3MCh78Gz4

There are a lot of other videos by the same guy comparing other various stones. Hope this helps!

Mrs.Bill :  is Tianyu the chinese factory where moissanites come from? I had a look on your link – I’m amazed at the prices! I see on reddit a lot of ladies bought their erings from Tianyu and are very happy with it. But the only problem is… 11 pages of moissanite listings, so confusing lol

you say your favourite H&A moissanite is the Amora. I’m curious to know also what is your favourite moissanite out of all the cuts?

dw4518 :  Yes, Tianyu is one of the Chinese companies – I can’t remember the name of the other one but it should be relatively easy to find via a Google search.

Yes, I agree the site is rather confusing but, as per the redditt posters, it seems rather straight forward. I was debating purchasing a stone from them but have decided to get an AG Eternity instead.
