Fiance and I are meeting with a photographer next Friday, and all his packages come with an engagement session. I’m wondering if anyone has advice for which season/month is best for engagement photos. I don’t want winter or spring (not up for doing them in the snow, rain, mud, etc), so I am hoping for some advice about summer or fall. I am thinking summer, since we are having a summer wedding in August 2015 so if we use them for Save-The-Date Cards it would feel more appropriate, and it would be nice to wear a sun dress. I like the fall colours, but it rains so much around the time the leaves change. Does anyone have advice based on their own engagement photo experiences or ideas? Thank you!! 🙂

@SummerOfLove: we did ours in the summer and it was soooo hot!! My hair was straight and instantly got wavy and poofy!! We were all sweating!! I say fall!!! You can get pretty pictures with the trees and stuff!!

@Kafrine: I thought of that too, my hair is awful when it’s humid! Thanks for your advice 🙂

We did ours in winter but indoors at a conservatory filled with all kinds of gorgeous greenery. It took weather totally out of the equation, and the photos came out great! We also got a few outdoor pics in our winter coats with snow. So perhaps you may want to start by thinking about what locations you want for your photos, and then you can determine what season is best (or whether season doesn’t matter). Good luck and have fun!

@SummerOfLove: They both have pros and cons! I think go with what your gut tells you – they are both beautiful seasons.

@SummerOfLove: Ours were done in July, and I do not recommend it! The photographer had to photoshop FI’s shirt in the favorite pictures because he was sweating so bad, my hair was sweaty, we had to keep wiping sweat off our faces in between pictures. Our only saving grace was that it was pretty windy, so we had air blowing on us.

I would try for fall when the leaves are changing. Your wedding pictures will be done in the summer, this will give you something different.
And it’s miserable being outdoors taking pictures when it’s hot.

We finally did ours just last month. It was perfect. It wasn’t hot, it wasn’t rainy, the trees were starting to get some color on them. They turned out really well.

Fall! Pretty colors. My husband and I got ours done in the fall right when the leaves were turning colors. Beautiful!
Also, you have more wardrobe options as you don’t have to worry about getting hot. And more hair options if your hair is easily affected by humidity.

We did ours over Labor Day weekend. It was in the 70s and perfect outside. I got to wear cute dresses that I would have never been able to wear in the fall due to colder weather. I love them and so glad we chose that time!

We did fall… but we are also doing another shoot in winter outside and another one inside that’s Christmasy. Another in Springs as the snow is melting down by the train tracks and probably another few in summer. But we are both photographers and work for a photography company.
