I sleep on the right side at my apartment and at my parents house because that just so happens to be the side that is away from the door.

Left side, it’s furthest from the door so if someone comes in my hubby will see them first and I have a chance to run LOL

I sleep on the left and she on the right, which suits us both. Coincidentally, I’m left handed and she’s right handed.

Looking at the bed, on the right side. Not because I care at all, but because Fiance throws a fit if I even suggest anything else. 🙂

I sleep on the right side looking at the bed.  The only reason that I do this is because that is the side I slept on before I lived with Fiance.

My bed has to be next to a wall, and I always sleep next to the wall lol. I still live at home but when we are in FI’s bed I always lay next to the wall too. The other day I was on the phone with him and I could hear him messing with a door, I was like what are you doing? he goes playing with the door, I can touch it from my side of the bed. I was like aaaaaaaw you sleep on “your” side even when I am not there! I thought it was cute!

I’m the opposite of JennyChicago–I HATE being on the wall side and it makes me feel claustrophobic!  I have a reeeeaaaally hard time falling asleep on the wall side.  FI and I often argue about who’d get the “wall side” since all the beds we’ve slept in for extended periods of time have been against walls and he also prefers the non-wall side.  But I usually win, and Fiance only gets the non-wall side as a “reward” if he did something awesome that day, hehe.  I am psyched about our new sleeping arrangements come fall: we’ll have a queen bed (previously we’ve only slept in twins…argh) in the center of the room, each with our own nightstand, so no fighting about who gets the wall side, who has control over the alarm clock, etc.  We’ll each have our own non-wall side and alarm clock. 😀  When I think about it, the right side seems more natural to me, so hopefully I’ll be on that side and Fiance will be okay with that.  My mom always slept on the right side of my parents’ bed (coincidentally, the side closer to the door in both the houses we’ve lived in, but dad has guns and sleeps with a knife on the headboard so I think he’s got the security thing locked down), so maybe it has something to do with seeing that growing up.  FI’s mom sleeps on the left side, however (also closer to the door, haha, but Future Father-In-Law sleeps closer to the windows, which seem to pose more of a ‘threat’ in a NYC apartment than the door to the bedroom haha), so hopefully he hasn’t been similarly indoctrinated by his parents’ sleeping habits.

And…I just wrote a book on the topic of sides of the bed. Wow.

Looking at the bed…I am always on the right side! So weird…but my parents are the same way and my in-laws sleep the same way too.

There was a poll about this that someone made a few months ago.

Looking at the bed, I sleep on the right. Even though my side is closer to the door.

I chose the right side because my mum always slept on the right, and his parents did the same, so I think we kind of figured that was just how it was done (???). That seems a bit weird though!

I could NEVER sleep on the other side now, it seems awkward and horrible!

Whatever side is closest to the bathroom! And pohget, that’s funny, because my mom always slept on the right, so that’s how I always picture men and women sleeping together. Even if its closer to the door.

I never had to sleep with anyone next to me until I moved in with my husband. (I moved in 6 months after dating) He already had his side picked out so, naturally, I took the next side. I sleep on the right (looking at the bed) Husband sleeps closest to the door and to the bathroom door. He too, gets up early in the morning and doesn’t want to wake me up. I actually think we need to change sides. I favor my left side (I’m left handed) but when I had my car accident, my left shoulder was hurt during it. At times it hurts to sleep on it, but I just suck it up…We sleep not facing each other either. We snuggle before and then roll over.

I like all of these comments about letting the man sleep closer to the door so he can protect you.  In our house I’ve always slept on the side of the bed closer to the door, but I also sleep with a handgun within arms reach.  (I’m a Texan, what do you expect?)  🙂
