Background: My wedding is November 7th in the Chicago suburbs. I want to purchase something for my bridesmaids to wear over their dresses. These will not be worn during the ceremony. They will be worn outside as we are moving between the ceremony and reception. The dresses are royal blue, chiffon and floor length; however, each girl chose their own style, so the top of the dresses are different. I wanted something that all the girls could wear again (reason why I’m not purchasing shawls), and I want the girls to be comfortable in the event it is cold outside. Other details: silver shoes, silver jewelry, white flowers.
Option 1: Grey Cardigan.
The cardigan is definitely made of a thinner material. I think it would look fine in pictures, but wouldn’t provide a ton of warmth. I would be ok with the girls wearing these during the reception if they wanted to. My sister (who is modeling the sweater below) said she would prefer the sweater to be one size bigger.
Option 2: Ivory Sweater Jacket.
I think this one is better suited for the cold weather. I think it would look ok in pictures (if it was really cold outside), but is definitely more of an outerwear piece, so I don’t see the sweater jackets being worn inside during the reception.

I love the ivory jacket with it! It looks put together and really cute whereas the cardigan looks like an after thought. Lovely dress color by the way!

If I were a bridesmaid I would prefer the cardigan. The jacket isn’t my style, but I feel like everyone can wear cardigans because they go with nearly everything.

I think the cardigan but I’m not a fan of the color. I think it clashes.

jbecke01: could you get them a cute wrap/shawl type of thing? i think that style would work much better with those dresses than either of those two options, IMO
ETA: Sorry! just saw the part about you wanting to use them again. in any case, i would keep looking! i’m sure there are options that would fit a little better with that style of dress.

I know you think shawl would never be used again, but honestly if it were me (as a BM), that’s what I’d prefer. All the weddings I go to, I bring a wrap/shawl just in case it’s cold in the venue or whatever. I think they just look much more elegant than a cardigan.

I voted for jacket for day of warmth and color but for actual wedding look the first is better style but not a good color. I think it is too dark so it conflicts with the dress. Could you get the first in a different color? Also you may want to ask them their style for re-using.

I prefer the ivory jacket because it’s more ‘me’ & I also get cold easily so the extra warmth would be much appreciated, but I also think the color goes better with the dress than the gray cardigan.

jbecke01: I’d go with pashmina scarves, probably in white or silver. I don’t think either of the options given look good.

Certainly not that dark charcoal cardigan with a royal blue dress. And I don’t really think the jacket looks terribly well made or suitable either , sorry to be so blunt.
I agree with the pp who suggested pashminas. Or a little faux fur boleo.
