We’ve got some of the same “not doing”…skipping:

  1. 1st dance (actually skipping dancing altogether, since we’re having a brunch reception)
  2. father-daughter/mother-son dance
  3. bouquet/garter toss
  4. cake cutting (maybe) + cake feeding
  5. “dress” surprise (FI helped choose the dress from pics of me in them)
  6. separate beds/homes night before
  7. either set of parents paying a dime

  1. dad (& mom) walking me down the aisle
  2. white dress
  3. church wedding
  4. abstaining before marriage (since the engagement/my last confession)
  5. giving favors (doing these in lieu of dancing/reception – we’re giving tickets to Disneyland & finishing the reception in the park)

I’m super curious to see how others are personalizing their weddings…great post!

Not doing:

  • my dress certainly won’t be a total surprise. Fiance has seen pics of all the ones i’ve considered (just not me in them).
  • we won’t be doing a church wedding (which we have not yet broken to his very catholic parents, who told him they simply wouldn’t attend if it’s not in a church…they’ll have to get over it).
  • HELL NO to the garter toss
  • no bouquet toss
  • no father/daughter mother/son dances
  • we’ll be having a formal wedding but only 50-60 guests, which i guess is pretty atypical for formal weddings
  • abstaining before marriage, not being in the same bed the night before the wedding: another hell no

  • i would have never seen it coming, but i’ll be wearing a giant white princess dress
  • um…pretty much everything else will be fairly traditional.  all our food will be vegan, which i guess is not so traditional, however.

  • white(ivory)dress  (although it’s short and kind of casual)
  • traditional jewish wedding-ketubah, chupah, bekeden, breaking of the glass, parents walk me down the isle to dodi li and stand at the chupah, etc.
  • something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

not doing

  • garter/bouquet toss
  • first dance/dancing in general
  • cake cutting.
  • an entrance
  • an exit
  • anything that will cause people to be looking at the bride!
