I think the pizza and sandwich idea would be a lot of fun! My opinion is to go with whatever fits your personality. thought…you guests will be hungry and you don’t want them to leave hungy.  Oh wait maybe that’s my grandmother talking! Sorry! No honestly, do what you personality fits best with!

I only said long because it’s nice to have a looong time with your geusts and really enjoy it. With the short idea it seemsl ike 2 hours would not be nearly enough time to really enjoy the party. Just my two cents.

I can’t believe you are doing a cash bar! Your guests will be so upset. . !!!

    Just kidding 😉

Seriously, I love the idea of the longer reception and pizzas. Casual yummy food is always my vote. It relaxes people. I think you will appreciate having the longer reception, more time to spend with your guests.

I’d want a longer reception. More time to celebrate with the newlyweds = more fun. I’d even be happy with the light apps + sodas + cake + candy option during the longer timeframe. Also, if there are any early birds among your guests, they might not like having to wait till 8pm or so to start.

Frankly, if I was expecting a lot of people to travel to a party that was a year after my wedding, I would damn well be sure to provide a complete, hot meal and bar. I don’t know if pizza and sandwiches would cut it. It also seems like a really short reception to be stressing over and planning so far in advance.

I would start it earlier–like 5 or so, with a really awesome cocktail hour (food, drinks, music, etc.) and then provide a nice dinner. I would be really grateful that people would be attending my 3rd wedding event, and so I would provide excellent hospitality to show my appreciation.

@Mrs Grape: if you’re going to have a longer reception, i would make sure that you have enough food to feed people like it’s a dinner, since it really would be during dinner time. if a reception started at 7pm i would assume it was a dinner reception.

i understand you’re desire to have a longer reception, and would consider it “rude” if only light appetizers, cake, and punch were served at 7pm.

I like the longer reception with more casual food. Makes it seem more like a party. Since you’re not doing a bar I think more food would be good, as it might be odd to come out for only a few short hours in the evening, but I agree that if you’re doing it at 7ish then you should make sure you have enough to feed people.

If I were you I’d think of it more as what you would do if you were having party rather than a typical “reception”. Pizza and sandwiches and dancing are fine – provided that you have enough food for everyone for most of the time.

I think either is fine, as long as you indicate what you are serving on the invite (hors d’oerves and cake only, etc.)  I personally would like the longer reception with the pizza.
