- Wedding: May 2012
Fiance and I are having a hard time deciding on a venue, and our mom’s have each placed themselves staunchly on one venue, so aren’t very impartial anymore. We’re going for a simple, outside, slightly beachy, mason jar kind of reception. I thought maybe you guys could help me weigh the Pros and Cons. Sorry it’s so long, thanks for your help!
Pros: Inexpensive (probably free, though we aren’t completely sure yet. The owner is a close friend of fmil); BEAUTIFUL (we especially love the nearby mountains); Plenty of space (it’s about the size of a football field); Private (set back from the road, the backyard of a bungalow).
Cons: Parking is on-site, and there is only one driving lane (people will be driving in at out a lot at our very informal reception); Restrooms (will have to be portable which I’m a little nervous about, and we’re still working on quotes but I think they could get pricy).
Pros: Inexpensive (could have free in exchange for doing some landscaping; it is owned by a good friend of my mom); Facilities (covered area, electricity, bathrooms allready on-site); Parking (separate from where we would be, people would probably still have to drive through but there is a lot more space); Baby goat (one of the baby goats followed me around and won me over when we visited).
Cons: Ranchy Feel (FI is not a “ranchy person”, his words, and doesn’t want our wedding to be ranched themed, which he fears will happen naturally at this venue); Awkward Tension (fmil and owner had a falling out a few years ago which is still uncomfortable for fmil, and possibly for owner as well); Attractiveness (FI doesn’t think it is very pretty, plain field, average trees, neighboring animals, no mountain view, etc.)
3. Aunt’s Backyard (generally fun trees, grass, normal Hawaii yard)
Pros: Inexpensive (as it is his aunt’s backyard); Prettiness (equipped with tress to hang the mason jar lights I want, flowers, fruit, etc.); Parking (large parking lot across the street we can probably use); Convenient (it will be easy to arrange).
Cons: Space (my parents are convinced it is too small for my large Hawaiian family, fmil thinks we can make it work); Mosquitoes/landscaping (we might have to do some work to clean it up, but it should be doable).
