- Wedding: June 2012
Hi everybody. I’d like to get your opinions on which of two possible reception venues I should pick. We are having a small (~50) reception and would like to have a laid-back and fun party type thing.
The first option is the Concordia Club. I love everything about it, except for the fact that they can’t do it on a Saturday. It would have to be a Friday evening, which would cause problems for people coming from 2 hours away through Toronto traffic.
The Concordia Club is a German club and as a result the wedding would be slighly German themed. This reasonably appropriate for us, since I am (many generations back) German, and since my Fiance and I love to go to Switzerland. If we went with this venue, we would serve the house specialty which is schnitzel and also serve rösti, which is a favourite dish of both of ours. We would also hire a polka band which I think would be a whole lot of fun. We would basically do the whole thing up as a little more upscale Oktoberfest–something my hometown is famous for. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitchener-Waterloo_Oktoberfest
Here are a couple pictures of the Concordia Club:
The second option is the University Club at the local university. Its biggest advantage is that we could have it on a Saturday. Other than that, it does have some good features. The building is architechturally quite beautiful, and the surrounding grounds are also. The grounds would provide a convenient place to take pictures without having to go to another location.
Another good thing about the University Club is the fact that they seem to be able to do everything for us. They will buy the flowers and arrange them if we give them a budget. They have even said that they can get me lilacs (my favourite flower).
A slight downside is the fact that it might seem a little weird to have it at this university, considering that both I and my Fiance graduated from a different university. On the other hand, this one is walking distance from where I grew up, and I attended pre-school and dance lessons there, so it’s not completely unrelated.
Here are a few pictures of the University Club:
Above is a patio that we could use. It looks much nicer than this in summer.
I’d appreciate any comments you have. Also, how weird do you think it would be to still have the polka band if we went with the University club?
