Bridal gown because you only get to buy that once (hopefully)

I knew exactly what I wanted for both, so neither were that hard for me 🙂

Bridesmaid dresses were pretty easy for me.  I had my maid of honor try on 4 dresses before I made my decision! As soon as she put on the last one, I knew that would be the dress for my girls!

I sent it to them just to be sure everyone would be comfortable with the style and the price…they all agreed!

BM’s were pretty easy.  Shopping for my gown was much more difficult.  There were just way more options.

Yes! Definitely a harder time with the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. With my dress I was only making myself happy. However I had 7 Bridesmaid or Best Man all with very different senses of styles and at first it was a bit chaotic because I tried to give them the chance to pick their own. I wasn’t into them all being totally different kinds, I at least wanted it to look cohesive but one girl would suggest one thing then another would tell me no way sooo I eventually just picked out 4 dresses and said “Ok pick one from these 4”. I tried to make them slightly different styles to suit more individuality and it worked out much better that way.

Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses…I found my dress after 3 trips to different salons. We searched for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses for SIX MONTHS.

Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were WAY harder than me.  I have 7 different women with varying shapes and sizes, so picking something was a HUGE challenge.

With me, I knew what I wanted going in, and I ended up getting the second dress I tried on.  Done and done!

Definitely bridesmaids dresses.  I just wanted to make everyone happy, but everyone had different ideas about what was best.  Plus, I have a huge variety of budgets to take into consideration, and potentially a couple of pregnant bridesmaids.  I was the only one who had to fall in love with my wedding gown. 🙂

I knew exactly what I wanted for my dress so I went out and had it made for me and it’s beyond perfect. That’s been a really smooth, easy ride. Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses however… I thought it’d be easier if I let my gals choose their own dresses, and seeing as I didn’t want to be locked into a colour scheme they’re all wearing different colours, which was fine.

I gave them all a few parameters: no ridiculous amounts of clev/back, chiffon fabric, they each had their colour (and being slightly bridezilla about it I provided them with a paint sample card so they knew what “lemon” I was talking about) and the one last thing was “No Vintage!” on account of my dress being a tea length, vintage inspired dress.

Anyway, 3 out of 4 of my lovey gals went out, found a dress, sent me pics and sorted it out. They all look lovely in their dresses and all of their dresses look fantastic together.

Anyway Bridesmaid or Best Man no. 4 was kinda another story. She decided to have her mum make her dress, which was fine and told me that when she’d picked a pattern she’d send me the pictures so I could either approve it or ask her to rethink it. Anyway, about a month ago I rang her and asked her how the dress was going, she told me she’d picked a pattern, and actually said to me “I know you said no vintage but I picked a vintage pattern anyway, but don’t worry it’s not gonna look vintage”. Hmmmm. Anyway then she tells me that she got “green tulle with pink underlay cos there was no green fabric like the green that I’d given her”. What the? TULLE?! Turns out she’s just a bit ditsy and HAD actually got chiffon, she just doesn’t know her fabrics. Needless to say, it took me a while to relax after envisioning her in green and pink TULLE!!! Eeep!

So anyway, long story short, her mum makes this dress, I hadn’t seen a pattern at ANY stage so I had no idea what it looks like, and she told me it was vintage so I’ve spent the last month praying that her dress isn’t a green version of mine (LOL) and only just saw a photo of the completed dress at my Kitchen Tea last week… so 3 weeks before the wedding! Luckily the dress is fine, but there’s been a lot of stressing involved, and a lot of trying to diplomatically but forcefully insist on seeing the dress, clarifying that it’s the right fabric, colour etc.

So in conclusion, it was definitely more stressful sorting out the bridesmaids dresses (or actually, just one bridesmaids dress!) than my dress!

The Bridesmaid or Best Man dress wasn’t an issue for us at all.  We had only one female attendant.  She already owned a dress she’d worn as Maid/Matron of Honor in a friend’s wedding.  So we told her she could just wear that one again.

YES!  The ironic part is I only have ONE BM!  I found and fell in love with my dress so easy but my sister, my mom and I have been emailing eachother pics of dresses for my sister on almost a daily basis. I don’t know how you ladies with large BPs do it.  Best of luck!!!
