I would normally have said Mac and Cheese as the appetizer but if the entrees include fried chicken and fish with grits then I do think the family style macaroni will work nicely and I wouldn’t do brownies and cupcakes so if the cupcakes are being served, I would do the sweet biscuits to have something different.

macaroni and cheese makes a good side dish I think…i’d rather have it with the chicken =]. Mmmm fried chicken and mac and cheese!

I’d rather have the strawberry shortcake thing I guess? I dunno! I’d try either!

You know, I think which ever way you go people will love it! Yum! Now I’m hungry! If you HAD to pick (which…obviously you do) I would do the biscuits…those sound just awesome. It would be a toss up for me on the mac and cheese. If you can make the mac and cheese balls (I think they’re fried) as appetizers, that would be cool. Otherwise, I would do family style!

@mandb122: That would be pretty cool if you could get the fried mac and cheese! If it passes the tast test, I say go for it! That would actually be pretty good with crab cakes too!

I’d like it in the beginning – it showcases it.

re: dessert – I think the strawberries would be lighter and more people would likely partake of the cupcakes afterwards vs. the heavier sundae (even though I LOVE brownie sundaes!!!)

I chose the family style mac & cheese too.

By The Way I am totally jealous!  We’re also having a restaraunt reception like yours with a private dining room… but the food is very “frou frou” for what Fiance and I are used to.  In other words, it all sounds very very impressive but it’s not really “us” at all.  Nothing like what we’d normally eat (Mexican or Southern style/comfort food)… but oh well it was the absolute best option for where we’re marrying and is highly recommended!  Just a lot of it is stuff I’ve probably never eaten in my life (knowingly)!  😉

I’ll take mac & cheese and grits any day!

Mac and cheese is often paired with fried chicken as a side dish. It seems really awkward to eat during the cocktail hour.

As for the dessert, you can’t go wrong with either. Also keep in mind that not everyone will want cupcakes after dessert is served since they may not have any room with everything else that is served for dinner.
