Could you ask them to put out just some mixed nuts or even rolls? That way if someone simply must eat with their alcohol they can but it shouldn’t be a huge inconvenience for the venue. I think the hour long cocktail hour in this scenario seems unnecessary. And while yes everyone is an adult and can moderate their alcohol, people likely won’t have eaten in awhile so having a simple option available would be welcome to many people. It’s easy to get a little ahead of yourself, especially when celebrating.

Oh I just remembered. A friend had a champagne toast after her ceremony prior to arriving at her venue and she had mini soft pretzels with like a sign about just trying the knot. It gave those that needed a snack with their drink one and gave people something to munch while mosf of us walked to the venue location. Not saying it’s necessary, but it could be one way to handle it and with an intimate guest list, it should be very affordable.

stick with the 1 hr traditional cocktail hour — even with only 20 guest it will still get used up quickly between actual photos from the photographer plus other ppl just taking candids/selfies. I would say that it will be 5 min for everyone to walk over from ceremony, 10-15 min for eveyone to even just get a drink, then once you and Darling Husband arrive it will be a flurry of ppl wanting to say congrats which will be another 15 min or so, then if you want to go to the bathroom or switch into comfy shoes or need any adjustments another 5-10 min and then its only about 15 more minutes until you sit down for dinner.

will you have any toasts or blessings (or other talks?) what about first dance etc? if you just go directly into dinner without any food prior it could be another 20-30 min before the first course comes out so I would much rather have some cute apps to nibble on right after the wedding vs waiting
