I was going to Books a Million and the DB next store had their WHITE signs up so I popped in for a looky-see. They would not let me take pictures and since I am not planning a do-over of my wedding, I didn’t try any on (although I could look at dresses and try them on all day long). The sales associate did say that they fit really well.
You did not have to special order–they did appear to have at least one of each size of each dress. Maybe more. The color they refer to as “blush” is a muted rose color. Definitely, unmistakably pink. Great for an untraditional bride or a ballgown, but not if you wanted something very subtle. The soft white and ivory are standard DB colors.
The good–I think these dresses have some beautiful design elements to them. The fuller skirts seem to have lots of pouf so probably no crinoline needed. My in-person favorites were VW351023, VW351029, VW351003
The less good–the fabric quality was the same as Oleg Cassini and Galina. I knew they weren’t going to be silk, but I was hoping to see an upgrade there. I wonder if these will “move” well or be stiff?
The bad–construction quality. Not great when you look closely at seams. There were also some oddly finished edges. It appeared to be done on purpose, but is perhaps the wrong execution of the right idea. The sashes would be a definite no–you could do much better on Etsy. The crystal embellishment looks very cheap–I think most regular DB dresses look much better. I also did not like the way the edges were finished on the horsehair sashes. The grosgrain sashes were nothing you couldn’t buy at a fabric store for a couple bucks a yard. My least favorites? VW351007, VW351026. These were probably the worst offenders in terms of quality.
I do not have a problem with DB at all but I do think that when you get to their higher price points, there are many better options out there. I have to include this collection. If they were a little lower priced or DB was going to be promotional with them, I would be more comfortable. But if you just have to have a Vera Wang design and money is less of an object, there are some good options.
Has anyone tried them on? I’m dying to see pictures on real, legal age (is that model old enough to drive?) brides!

The prices will probably drop after a while. I’ve been stalking this collection because I do love vera wang, What really excites me is that they are selling the accessories separate like the sashes, headbands and veils so brides who didnt buy a vera dress can still have a piece of vera in their wedding day outfit. Having said that, the vera accessories are a bit pricey and dont come in many colors yet… I still havnt bought my veil yet so i was looking at her veils but they just dont seem worth it

oOleg Cassini has very high quality fabrics, you can check it out on the website. I think that they are trying to appeal to the fashion centered bride with a smaller pocketbook thats why those fabrics aren’t as nice.
But the gowns do look lovely. Not lovely enough to sway my decision though lol.

My only problem is that EVERYONE will be wearing these dresses.

@bells: I did not even realize the veils were Vera Wang too. They had some hanging by the dresses, but I thought they were just a selection of veils. I am not a huge “veil person” so it’s nothing I would ever spend a lot of money on. On the other hand, $248 is probably not a horrendous price for the lace edge one.
@His Lil SantosGirl:Thanks!

@Klb5882: That is so true, I didn’t think about that! Thanks for bringing it up, because I was starting to seriously reconsider my dress for one of these babies!

Do they run about the same price as Oleg Cassini (little over 1,000)? I already have a dress, I’m just really curious!

@jo.lee:if i’m remembering correctly, they range from 600-1400

@jo.lee: If you look on the DB site, they state specific prices for each dress/accessory.
@Georgia Bee: Thanks for posting this. I was worried about the fabric and overall quality, but I will be going in to see anyways.
I’m definitely going to check out the veils. I want a cathedral length veil or no veil. The fact that the White Vera Wang ones are prices under $250 is fantastic.
I’m also excited to see what their bridesmaids dresses look like.. 🙂

@Georgia Bee: Great review, thanks for posting. I’m not that surprised about the quality. My seamstress had told me when working on my Vera (which I later changed my mind on and sold) that most of her dresses are made in China now. When you take the expensive silk fabrics and French laces out of the equation too, all you’re left with is the name. DB had been doing her knockoff designs for years anyways so I don’t think adding the official Vera name will change much.
Still, if the prices really really come down I might buy one of the pink dresses one day to wear to an event. They look nice enough to wear to a formal occasion.

@CaliforniaLove:If you try any on, please post some pictures! I can’t wait to see what they look like on a person. The fabrics aren’t horrendous or anything, I had just been hoping for an upgrade over your regular DB dresses.
@jo.lee: the more elaborate dresses were $1300-$1400. The sheath dresses, more “destination” looking were $600-$700.
I think the sleeper in this group is WV351003. The pictures do not do it justice at all.
